‘Today’ Savannah Guthrie Speaks Out On Mom’s Shocking Disappearance
Savannah Guthrie just returned to The Today Show after being gone for vocal cord surgery when she had to rush away once again. Her mother, Nancy Guthrie, 84, had been reported missing in Tucson, Arizona, but it was unclear what was going on. Now, more has emerged about what has happened, and Savannah has spoken out regarding this horrific situation. Keep reading for more details.
Savannah Guthrie’s Mom Goes Missing
In December 2025, Savannah Guthrie revealed she would be taking time off from The Today Show. The host needed vocal cord surgery and would not be back until the end of January 2026. She just came back to the desk and debuted her new voice when tragedy struck. The fifty-four-year-old was absent on Monday, February 2nd, 2026, and for a horrible reason. Her mother, Nancy Guthrie, had gone missing from her Arizona home, and it was unclear what had happened. Had she been struggling with dementia? Was she on medication? There were so many questions that needed to be answered.
As of late Monday morning, the disappearance of Nancy is now being looked at as a crime. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos spoke out at a press conference and shared this information regarding the terrifying situation:
“We believe now, after we process that crime scene, that we do, in fact, have a crime scene, that we do, in fact have a crime and we’re asking the community’s help.”
The last time Nancy was seen was on Saturday, January 31st. She was outside her home, but her missing status was ot reported until the following afternoon. Nancy was fairly competent; however, she required medication, and if it was not taken within twenty-four hours, it could be life-threatening. Savannah Guthrie spoke out to her followers, thanking them immensely for all they had done thusfar. Yet, her primary focus was getting her mother home safely:
“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support. Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom. We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at (520) 351-4900.”
The Big Alert
The Today Show host had no reason to be concerned until the family received a concerning phone call. Savannah Guthrie’s family let authorities know that they had gotten a call from Nancy Guthrie’s church. She was not in attendance, so they headed over to her home. They proceeded to do a full search before calling the police and reporting her as missing. Allegedly, something in the home has caused a lot of concern, but the reason for Nancy’s being taken is unknown. There is a question of whether or not she was targeted due to being Savannah Guthrie’s mother. Until she is returned safely, everything will be in question and for good reason.
