He’d been battling health issues for years. However, the loss has seemingly taken a toll on the beloved entertainer. The “I Will Always Love You” singer is reportedly planning her own funeral. Dolly Parton Reflects On Turning 80
Dolly Parton turned 80 on January 19. She celebrated by releasing a new version of “Light of a Clear Blue Morning.” Lainey Wilson, Miley Cyrus, Queen Latifah, and Reba McEntire joined her on the song, with money going to pediatric cancer research at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.
She also received a surprise bagpipe performance from Bono and his U2 bandmates. The bagpipe player surprised Dolly Parton while she was in a meeting. Someone else brought in a birthday cake. The country music icon seemed healthy and happy, especially given what she’s been through.
Her beloved husband passed away in March. Dolly Parton relied on music to get her through the tough times. She scheduled a Las Vegas residency for late 2025. However, she was forced to cancel on doctor’s orders. Her sister asked for prayers, sparking rumors that Dolly Parton was on her deathbed.
Dolly Parton made it clear that she was alive and well, but her health issues continue to be a challenge. She bowed out of a recent Grand Ole Opry celebration to honor her on her 80th birthday.
The “9 to 5” singer addressed her milestone birthday in a PEOPLE magazine interview in late 2025. “Look at all I’ve done in 80 years. I feel like I’m just getting started. I know that sounds stupid, but unless my health gives way, which right now I seem to be doing fine,” she said.
But sources close to the singer revealed that she’s quietly planning her own funeral.

Dolly Parton took her husband’s death hard. Her own health issues on top of that have reportedly only made the grief worse.
“Carl’s death reshaped her world in ways she’s still coming to terms with. Work has always been her refuge, so having to step back, cancel performances, and sit with the quiet has been especially painful as she navigates the loneliness left behind,” a source close to the singer said.

Another insider spilled on Dolly Parton’s funeral plans. “Dolly has never been someone who shies away from reality, and reaching this stage of life has simply made her more thoughtful rather than fearful. She is still full of plans and energy, but she also wants peace of mind knowing that, when the moment eventually arrives, it will mirror the kindness, humor, and generosity she’s spent a lifetime sharing with other people,” the source told Radar Online.
Dolly Parton herself hasn’t spoken out about her funeral plans. She’s focused on living her life as long as she can.
