NFL Fans Drag Tony Romo After Making Mistake On Live TV
Tony Romo has made a career out of covering sports after having a career on the gridiron himself. However, he has been known to make some mistakes during his broadcast career. In fact, one recent flub has especially gotten fans talking on social media.
Tony Romo Was Hired By CBS Sports Following His Retirement From Professional Football
Romo is a former professional football quarterback for previously played with the Dallas Cowboys. Signing with the team as an undrafted free agent in 2003, he retired around 2016.
In recent years, however, Romo has also become known as a media personality. Since his retirement, Romo was hired by CBS Sports to serve as its NFL telecasts’ lead color analyst.

However, Romo’s broadcast career has not been without criticism. Recently, viewers noted he made a gaffe during Saturday’s Divisional Round game between the Buffalo Bills and Denver Broncos.
Early during the second quarter, Josh Allen scrambled up the middle 26 yards against the Broncos’ defense. While describing the game, however, Romo didn’t name Allen.
In fact, at one point during the breakdown, Romo accidentally called Allen “Mahomes.” This is believed to be a reference to Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
This notably comes after Romo came under fire for making mistakes during the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars’ wildcard game. This included calling the Bills both underdogs and “overdogs” in the same sentence.

In a conversation with SiriusXM’s Adam Schein, Romo defended himself, saying that he was sick during the broadcast. However, he didn’t want to let this keep him from his job.
As mentioned by The U.S. Sun, Romo shared, “You’re not going to miss a playoff game. It’s too much fun. I think anytime you’re in a position like we are. We’re on the air for three and a half hours. You’re always trying to do the best you can and everything.”
One Source Recently Shared That Tony Romo Shouldn’t Be In Any Trouble Anytime Soon At CBS
“There’s always going to be moments where always all this great stuff, and then other stuff. It’s just part of being in your position. You just go back to work, and you do a great job. I mean, that’s the fun part about this. It’s sports, and it makes it fun.”
Similarly, with this recent gaffe, many NFL fans criticized the mistake on social media. On X, one fan asked, “Why is Tony Romo talking about Patrick Mahomes while the Broncos and Bills are playing?”

Others questioned if Romo should stay with CBS. As another fan wrote, “Tony Romo just called Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes. Fire this dude.”
However, a recent source shared that CBS is unhappy with the criticism Romo has been facing as of late, since he is currently under contract for a few more years. Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports recently wrote that, “As for those calling for Romo to be demoted or dumped, here’s a reality check. CBS has a Super Bowl in 2028. Romo’s under contract through 2030. He’s not going anywhere.”
