Man Attempts To Sneak Dead Wife On Plane, Arrested

The airport security staff made a grim discovery when passengers were boarding. They noticed a woman in a wheelchair was unresponsive. After further investigation, they discovered that the woman was dead. Her husband was allegedly trying to board the airplane with his dead wife without anyone noticing.

The man, 80, initially claimed that his wife had been alive when they arrived at the airport, but died while they were waiting to board the plane. The authorities immediately began investigating the incident. The man was later arrested.

Not much is known about the man’s identity. The incident happened at the Tenerife South Airport in Spain. Oddly, it wasn’t the first time a passenger tried to sneak their dead relative onboard an airplane.

Another Incident In Late 2025

An airplane leaving an airport in Spain quickly turned around and returned to the terminal after the flight crew noticed a passenger was dead. The flight was delayed for 12 hours after aborting the flight.

According to The Daily Mail, a British family of five was suspected of bringing the woman, 89, on the plane knowing that she was dead. According to witnesses, the family members claimed to be doctors and told the flight crew that their elderly relative was feeling sick and was asleep.

Shortly before takeoff, the flight crew became suspicious and had the plane turned around. The airliner, EasyJet, denied that the woman was dead before boarding. They claimed that she had a fit to fly certificate and died after boarding the plane.

“To the naked eye, she looked like she was already dead, slumped unconscious in a wheelchair. So why would she be allowed onto the flight and then disrupt everyone’s plans… purely to save the family repatriation?” one passenger wrote on social media.

“They were talking to her and acting as if she was alive,” another passenger told The Daily Mail. They added, “None of the family seemed upset or like they were panicking, they weren’t crying or shocked – they were completely calm and talking to the paramedics.”

EasyJet reportedly gave the remaining passengers a food voucher. A third witness described the situation. “Everyone on the plane thought she looked dead when she arrived – she should never have been passed as fit to fly,” they claimed.

Can You Fly With Dead Relatives?

Most airlines do allow corpses to fly, but only with strict protocols. In the United States, family members must work with a funeral home or mortuary service. The body is transported as cargo, not placed in a wheelchair with the other passengers.

Tell us in the comments the strangest thing you’ve seen someone sneak on an airplane.

  1. Why would airline staff including pilot assume responsibility for an unresponsive passenger. Was there prior medical clearance, accompanying medical documents, family and or medical personnel?
