According to The Hill, two sources familiar with Trump claimed that he laid into Senator Susan Collins, a Republican from Maine, during a recent call. This reportedly followed her supporting a Democratic-led war powers resolution concerning recent events in Venezuela.

The sources described the call as a “profanity-laced rant” on Trump’s end. One source, described as a Senate GOP member, shared, “He called her and then basically read her the riot act.”

The call was described as coming “out of the blue,” noting that Trump did not frequently talk with the senator. The second source, said to be familiar with the car, claimed that Trump told Collins that the resolution was impacting his power as president.

This source shared, “He was very mad about the vote. Very mad. Very hot.”

President Trump Recently Named A Few Senators, Including Sen. Susan Collins, On Truth Social

According to the outlet, a spokesperson for Collins confirmed that the call took place. However, they declined further comment, including on what was said during the call.

Reportedly, the resolution passed 52-47. Following this, Trump addressed five Senate Republicans who supported discharging the resolution in a post on Truth Social. In addition to Collins, this also included Sens. Josh Hawley, Lisa Murkowski, Rand Paul, and Todd Young.

As shared by the publication, Trump wrote, “Republicans should be ashamed of the senators that just voted with Democrats in attempting to take away our Powers to fight and defend the United States of America. This vote greatly hampers American Self Defense and National Security, impeding the President’s Authority as Commander in Chief.”

Following the ballot, Collins told the media that the president was “obviously” upset “with the vote.” She continued, I guess this means that he would prefer to have [Maine Governor Janet Mills] or somebody else with whom he’s not had a great relationship. I don’t know, I’m just not going to comment.”

The outlet also shared that Senate Majority Leader John Thune noted that Trump “fired up” in a phone call prior to Thursday’s vote. He also reportedly told reporters after the tally his remarks on social media had been “a short-term, immediate reaction to something he felt strongly about.”
