Jenny McCarthy was only on The View for one season, but she absolutely hated it. She spoke out again about the horrible experience. Sherri Shepherd, who was a co-host on that season, responded to her friend’s hate for the ABC talk show. Keep reading to find out why the former Playboy model hated the show and Sherri Shepherd’s reaction.

Jenny McCarthy Blasts The View Again

Playboy launched the career of Jenny McCarthy. The modeling career led her to a job co-hosting MTV’s dating show Singled Out for two seasons. She then headlined a short-lived sitcom on NBC. In 2013, she took on a more serious role as a co-host of ABC’s daytime talk show, The View.

The experience was so bad that she left after just one season. She’s spoken out a lot over the years about her brief time on the show. In a new interview, she shared more details about how she was basically forced to talk politics on The View. Jenny McCarthy has turned down multiple invitations to return. “Over my dead body would I ever step foot in that place,” she said.

Now, one of her former co-hosts and close friends responded to Jenny McCarthy’s horrible experience on The View.

Former Co-Host Sherri Shepherd Responds To Jenny McCarthy’s Hate For The Show

Sherri Shepherd was a co-host on The View from 2007 until 2014, the same year Jenny McCarthy left. The 30 Rock actress has hosted her own daytime talk show since 2022. On Thursday’s episode of Sherri, she addressed Jenny McCarthy’s comments about The View.

Sherri Shepherd backed up Jenny McCarthy’s claims that she was forced to talk about politics despite joining the show for “fluffy” commentary. “It’s no secret Jenny McCarthy hated being on The View,” she said.

The talk show host recalled, “I remember the day they switched it to politics, Jenny came into my dressing room just like that. She goes, ‘Sherri, oh my God, what am I gonna do?’ And I looked at her, I said, ‘What are you gonna do? What are we gonna do!'”

Sherri Shepherd confirmed that Jenny McCarthy was brought on the show in the first place to lighten things up. “They brought her on the show after a lot of focus groups said they wanted less fighting about politics. They wanted it to be more chill and more fun,” she shared.

However, the focus group changed their minds, so the show added more political discussions, which neither Jenny McCarthy or Sherri Shepherd were prepared for.

Sherri Shepherd said the show did the same thing to her. “When I came on the show, they wanted someone light, they wanted a person who was a mother, to talk about being single, being a mother, it was supposed to be very light,” she claimed.

She said that at one point, Barbara Walters told her to “read a book.” Despite the bait and switch, Sherri Shepherd had nothing but nice things to say about her time on the show.

“Even though it was hard for me, I had the best time on The View. It was one of the best, hardest, most terrifying, most crying-filled experiences, but I loved it,” Sherri Shepherd said about her time on The View.

The talk show host added that she made “friends for life” with the other co-hosts. “I used to make so many flubs, but those ladies, every time, they protected me, they never let anybody talk about me. I love them so much over at The View,” Sherri Shepherd said.

Yet, she does understand where Jenny McCarthy is coming from. “I do know what it’s like. I feel bad that Jenny went through all of that,” she added.
