The President of the United States has the authority to give an unlimited number of pardons to individuals convicted of federal crimes. The current President, Donald Trump, shared a shocking update on a pardon for disgraced musician Sean “Diddy” Combs. He previously said he would look into the matter. Keep reading for the latest on the situation.

President Trump Reveals Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Asked For Pardon

Sean Combs founded Bad Boy Records in 1993, helping to launch the careers of Mary J. Blige, The Notorious B.I.G., and others. The record producer was also a musician himself and had several huge hits. But his dynasty began to crumble in 2023 when singer Cassie Venture filed a bombshell lawsuit against him for alleged physical abuse. Her allegations that he trafficked her for s*x with other men eventually led to charges being filed against Sean “Diddy” Combs.

He was convicted of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution in October 2025. He’s currently housed in the FCI Fort Dix prison in New Jersey. His scheduled release date is 2028, but he wants out now. Reports surfaced earlier this year that the rapper sought a pardon from President Trump.

The President addressed those claims a few months ago, saying he hadn’t received an official pardon request but would look at the facts of the case. In a new interview with The New York Times, he said that he recently received a letter from Sean “Diddy” Combs asking for a pardon.

While he offered to show the NYT the letter, he never did. But he shared a shocking update on whether he will grant a pardon to the disgraced music producer.

Shocking Update On Pardon Request

President Trump granted over 100 pardons during his first term. He has reportedly issued over 1,000 pardons during the first year of his second term, though that number varies depending on the source. Some of his pardons have been quite controversial. He pardoned reality TV stars Todd and Julie Chrisley two years after they were convicted of bank fraud.

Will Sean “Diddy” Combs receive the next controversial pardon? President Trump told The New York Times that while the rapper requested a pardon, he’s not inclined to give it to him.

His Thoughts On Other High Profile Pardon Requests

Just last month, President Trump pardoned Juan Orlando Hernández, the former President of Honduras. He was convicted of drug trafficking in 2024. But President Trump said the conviction was political persecution. The New York Times asked if President Trump plans to issue pardons for other high-profile convictions.

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was among the high-profile convictions who could potentially receive a pardon. He’s currently in the process of seeking a new trial. “I haven’t been asked about it,” President Trump said about the possibility of a pardon for the disgraced cop.

President Trump said he has no plans to pardon Sean “Diddy” Combs. Tell us in the comments if you agree with that decision.
