‘The View’ Whoopi Goldberg Calls Out Audiences For Being Ugly
Whoopi Goldberg doesn’t hold back. She says what she means and means what she says. The View host called out the studio audience for being ugly. Keep reading to find out what was behind the shocking statement.
Whoopi Goldberg Calls Out Audiences For Being Ugly
Whoopi Goldberg has an interesting relationship with the studio audience that sits through tapings of The View. Fans of the daytime talk show go online to register for tickets, but don’t always get tickets for a specific date or guest. The New York City studio is always packed. Some talk shows have guidelines for attire or certain rules about recording.

The View hosts returned on January 5th after a long holiday break. Whoopi Goldberg immediately got into it with Sara Haines during a “Hot Topics” segment. On the January 6th show, the moderator accidentally insulted past audience members with an off-handed comment.
As they entered the studio, Joy Behar heaped praise on the studio audience. “You know, we have the best-looking audience. Just look at this,” Joy Behar said while walking to the table.
Whoopi Goldberg chimed in with agreement but inadvertently dissed some fans of the show as ugly. “We don’t always get good-looking audiences,” she said in response to Joy’s remarks. Whoopi Goldberg was trying to flatter the studio audience but threw shade at previous attendees.
According to Entertainment Weekly, her co-hosts let the off-handed comment go without response. Whoopi Goldberg immediately jumped into a deep discussion about a controversial moment in U.S. history that happened on January 6th.

The View Marks Anniversary Of Controversial Moment In History
When President Trump lost the 2020 election to President Biden, he rallied his supporters just steps from the U.S. Capitol building on January 6, 2021. After the rally ended, some of his supporters went down to the Capitol and forced their way inside. They were attempting to stop Congress from certifying the election results.
News stations across the country, including The View, did segments on January 6, 2026, to mark the fifth anniversary of the attack. While politicians from both sides of the aisle denounced the attack at the time, the narrative has shifted in recent years. So, the coverage of the event varied depending on the network.
“I want to remind folks, I think Republicans have the privilege of ‘not caring’ about January 6, because Mike Pence did the right and hard thing,” Alyssa Farah Griffin said on The View.
“This would be a very different conversation if he’d not certified the election, if we’d not moved forward and sworn in the duly elected president, who was Joe Biden then. And I just wish we would pause and think about that,” she added.
So, the January 6th episode of The View started off with Whoopi Goldberg calling the audience ugly, and went to the hosts reflecting on the attacks on the Capitol. Watch the transition in the video above and share your thoughts in the comments.
