Performer Allegedly Drunk At Last Year’s Nashville’s Big Bash
Most people enjoy a few glasses of champagne on New Year’s Eve. But most people aren’t performing on a televised special in front of a live audience and millions at home. Country singer Elle King came under fire at the end of 2024 for her alleged drunken performance on CBS’s Nashville’s Big Bash.
Fans took to social media at the time to express their concern and anger at the singer’s awful performance. A month after the New Year’s Eve special, Elle King faced more backlash for again seemingly performing drunk at a Grand Ole Opry event honoring Dolly Parton. The country singer said she went to therapy and got sober after public outcry.
Technical Issues Ruin CBS’s 2025 NYE Special
Unlike CNN’s Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen, the hosts and performers at this year’s Nashville’s Big Bash didn’t appear drunk. However, a major technical issue ruined the festivities for viewers at home. The event went off without a hitch for those celebrating live at the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park in downtown Nashville, Tennessee.
CBS viewers took to social media in confusion and anger when the broadcast cut off from country singer Lainey Wilson without warning. Many viewers reported that the channel abruptly went to commercial before randomly airing an episode of the Matlock reboot.
“Really @CBS your coverage of the New Years Eve Live : Nashville Big Bash sucked!! Cut out numerous times during great performances,” one viewer wrote on social media.
Another tweeted, “@CBS What the f**k are you guys doing? Trying to watch the Nashville Big Bash and its jumping all over the place. Was watching Lainey Wilson perform and it froze then a news ad and then Matlock then back to ads. What the h***???”
A third viewer took to social media to demand the network “FIX THIS RIGHT NOW!!!!” Another viewer suggested that someone at CBS would get “fired” for the mishap. What happened?
CBS Addresses Sudden Outage
The sudden outage lasted for 12 minutes, with commercials and Matlock airing instead of the New Year’s Eve special. Nashville’s Big Bash hosts Bert Kreischer and Hardy made it clear that neither of them were responsible for the incident.

Bert Kreischer explained what happened. “We lost power here in Nashville, and we got kicked off the air on CBS,” he told viewers once the issue was resolved. Hardy joked that neither of them pulled the plug.
According to Deadline, the network didn’t have time to edit the long break from the broadcast and the West Coast had to deal with the 12-minute blackout. CBS has been airing Nashville’s Big Bash since 2021. Maybe it will go off without a hitch next New Year’s Eve.
