President Trump Rips Late-Night Host, ‘Pathetic Trainwreck’
During his business career, Donald Trump had a cordial and beneficial relationship with the media. But that all changed once he was elected President in 2016. His relationship with the press has only gotten worse during his second term.
Late-night talk shows, particularly on the main three networks, take aim at the President constantly. He fired back with another rant, calling one host a “pathetic trainwreck.” Keep reading for more about the latest in the ongoing feud.
President Trump Rips Late-Night Host, ‘Pathetic Trainwreck’
President Trump has put talk show hosts, including Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel, on blast before. However, he seems to have extra distaste for late-night host Stephen Colbert. CBS announced in July that it was canceling The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, effective in May 2026. With little consequences left, Stephen Colbert has gone scorched earth on President Trump and the network.

CBS claimed that the talk show’s cancellation was due to financial reasons and low ratings. However, Stephen Colbert’s talk show is consistently in the top spot. Months after the firing, the government approved a merger between CBS’s parent company, Paramount Global, and Skydance Media. The coincidence, plus CBS recently axing an expose on ICE, raised questions about the network’s connection to the President.

In another late-night rant on social media, President Trump insulted Stephen Colbert and demanded the network yank his show from the air earlier than planned.
“Stephen Colbert is a pathetic trainwreck, with no talent or anything else necessary for show business success. Now, after being terminated by CBS, but left out to dry, he has actually gotten worse, along with his nonexistent ratings. Stephen is running on hatred and fumes ~ A dead man walking! CBS should, “put him to sleep,” NOW, it is the humanitarian thing to do!” – President Trump, Truth Social.
Suggests Terminating Broadcasting Licenses
President Trump followed up his attack on Stephen Colbert with a renewed call for CBS, NBC, and ABC to lose their broadcasting licenses. The Commander-In-Chief has floated the idea in the past, but his new reasoning raised eyebrows on social media.
“If Network NEWSCASTS, and their Late Night Shows, are almost 100% Negative to President Donald J. Trump, MAGA, and the Republican Party, shouldn’t their very valuable Broadcast Licenses be terminated? I say, YES!” President Trump wrote on social media.
Whether President Trump or the FCC has the ability to revoke a network’s broadcast license remains unclear. It’s never been done before. However, according to the BBC, the FCC could theoretically revoke broadcasting licenses. “Essentially broadcasters do not have the full First Amendment rights that the rest of us have,” Brent Skorup, a legal fellow with the Cato Institute, told the outlet.
Despite publicly bringing up the idea, President Trump hasn’t seemed to make any moves to actually have the FCC revoke ABC, CBS, or NBC’s broadcasting licenses. Tell us in the comments if you think he should consider doing it.
