‘General Hospital’ Maurice Benard Opens Up, Says ‘It’s Good To Cry’
Maurice Benard is known to many for his work on General Hospital and with his State of Mind podcast. Recently, he made an emotional share with fans on social media just ahead of the holidays. Since then, fans have been sharing their reactions online.
Viewers Have Been Watching Maurice Benard As General Hospital‘s Sonny Corinthos Since 1993
Benard is arguably best known for playing Sonny Corinthos on General Hospital. Joining the soap in 1993, he was initially intended to play the character for six months.
However, Benard would continue playing the character for decades to come. He also reprised the role in various spin-offs, including three episodes of Port Charles.

However, outside of his work on the show, Benard is also known for his podcast series, State of Mind. As described by Apple Podcasts, this series “is a leading mental health podcast dedicated to open conversations about emotional wellness and resilience.” In addition, not only is the host a soap opera star, but many of Benard’s guests are also well-known soap actors.
In addition, Benard has often shared messages with fans on social media. Taking to Instagram, the actor recently shared a list of things that are “good,” both in general and in his life.
At first, Benard listed things like having “a job” and “therapy.” He also shared his admiration for boxing and the 49ers.
A Lot Of Fans Also Took Time To Wish Benard Well, Especially For The Holidays
However, the actor also weighed in on mental health. He also felt it was “good” to “be bipolar” and “have anxiety and depression.” He also shared “it’s good to cry,” also noting “it’s good to have joy,” showing how it’s important to express and own one’s emotions.
Benard also listed things that made him happy, like having friends, playing with animals, spending time with his grandkids, and even praying. He also shared he was grateful for his podcast series, noting he knows “it helps people.” In the end, he wrote, “It’s great to be alive.”

Benard’s share is also rather timely. As previously reported, fellow General Hospital alum Chris McKenna also discussed mental health, sharing “I am bipolar,” with Benard on his State of Mind podcast.
Taking to the comments, many fans expressed words of support to the actor. Given the time of the share, a few also took time to wish Benard a happy holiday season. Some comments include:
