During a recent episode of The View, the co-hosts discussed President Donald Trump’s recent plan: a “gold card” worth a million dollars. Whoopi described this as something “non-Americans can buy as a fast-track visa that instantly gives them permanent residence status after they pass a background check.”

During the discussion, some of the co-hosts noted that other countries have experimented with similar programs, like Portugal and Singapore. However, some concern came out over the “optics” and that there was a “priority of immigrants.” There was even a comparison to the golden ticket in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Towards the end of the discussion, Whoopi also shared concern for the American workforce and the power they had. Speaking with her co-hosts, she shared, “[Trump] doesn’t recognize that if everybody who is in our audience today and who’s watching said, ‘You know what, let’s see how you do without us coming to work at all.”

“Let’s see who you’re going to need, because all these people who go to work every day who keep the country going. These are the people he’s hurting… And hurting them in ways that are shocking.”

Some Fans Agreed With What Whoopi Goldberg Said, But Felt She Wasn’t The Best Person To Say It

When Joy Behar shared, “He doesn’t care,” Whoopi added, “He’ll care if he can’t get his lawn mowed… he’ll care if he can’t get his stuff done. When people can’t get what they need, they wake up and say, ‘Oh, wait a minute… Oh, that’s right. I didn’t want to do that job. That’s why we have all this food… rotting on farms.”

Admitting that she was surprised to admit it, Whoopi added, “Ronald Reagan was a big proponent of making sure that people were able to come into this country as immigrants and work. You know? That was one of the things that I could say I agreed with him on. Because all at this table are immigrants. All of us.” She also shared this sentiment while turning towards the audience.

Taking to social media, many fans shared mixed reactions to Whoopi’s recent comments. As one person shared, “Did Whoopi call for a general strike? Am I the only who heard Whoopi call for a general strike today on the show. I swear she told people not to go to work. It made my day better after a hard work week.”

Some commenters agreed with the sentiment. However, a few felt that they didn’t think Whoopi was the right person to share this idea. Some comments included:

  • “I always wonder this when the hosts tell people to protest or with this today? Whoopi stay working like she’s poor or broke. I don’t get it.”
  • “Is Whoopi the breadwinner for her entire family including her great grandchildren?”
  • “Doesn’t she own a villa in Italy?”
  • “Am I the only one who heard her pull an actual Kelly Osborne ‘who’s going to clean your toilets?’ with her ‘who’s going to cut your grass?’ Jeeeezeuuussss.”
  • “I mean, let’s be real…what Kelly Osborne said was 100% true. It just came from the wrong person.”
