Whoopi Goldberg Hints Leaving ‘The View’ Again After Long-Awaited Return
Whoopi Goldberg has been absent from The View for two weeks. She made her long-awaited return on Monday, December 1. Her absence and return divided fans, but the longtime moderator hinted that she’s leaving again. Keep reading to find out what’s going on with her.
Whoopi Goldberg Returns To The View After Fulfilling A Dream
Shortly after Joy Behar missed several days of The View because of a foot injury, Whoopi Goldberg went MIA for two weeks. However, her absence was expected and planned for months. The longtime moderator was overseas filming a role for Italy’s iconic Un Posto Al Sole soap opera.
The Soap Dish actress always wanted to be on a soap opera, and her dream finally came true. She returned to the Manhattan, New York, studio where The View films on Monday, December 1. Whoopi Goldberg jumped back into her hosting duties like she was never gone.
Her absence, however, had fans divided over whether the show is better off without her on it.
Fans Divided On Her Absence
Whoopi Goldberg joined The View as moderator in 2007 after Rosie O’Donnell left the show. She’s served in the role ever since. On days when she’s not there, Joy Behar steps in as moderator.
Fans of the show took to social media to react to Whoopi Goldberg’s recent absence. A lot of viewers believe Joy is better in the role as moderator. Check out a few of the comments:

- “I’m much prefer joy as a moderator. She can actually read the cue cards and she joins in the discussion rather than giving repetitive platitudes at the end.”

- “I think it’s more interesting when Joy hosts, probably because it moves faster. And if it needs to move along Joy isn’t afraid to say that.”

She Hints At Leaving Again In The Future
When Whoopi Goldberg returned to the table with her co-hosts, she told them a little about the experience she had in Italy.
“I learned a lot because I’d never done a soap opera. Doing a soap opera in a different language, in a different country, yeah [it] made for a really interesting time,” she said.
The Oscar-winning actress joked that she sent her co-hosts footage from the set to prove she was actually working and not on vacation. “It rained every day. Like rain, storm, thunder, it was crazy,” she told them about the weather over there.
Despite the rain, she said it was a great experience and that the door is open for her to return to Un Posto Al Sole in the future. Whoopi Goldberg has also expressed interest in going into politics.
She is expected to be in a number of episodes that will air in 2026.
