Alabama Girl, 9, Viciously Attacked By Dog

Dog attacks are becoming increasingly more common, and each one is even more devastating. The latest incident went down in Hanceville, Alabama, and happened to a nine-year-old girl. Her name is Delyla McCay, and she was the victim of this attack by a blue heeler on November 7th, 2025. Delyla was waiting outside her apartment for her father, along with her sister, McKenzie, 13. As they were sitting together, the pup was being walked by another child. This kid became scared of the dog, the reason unknown, and ended up dropping the leash, which is when the dog went for Delyla.

Delyla was attacked by the blue heeler twice. The first time, a teen came by and attempted to help free her from the dog’s clutches. However, that just made it go back in a second time. Per Delyla’s mother, Katie McCay, her daughter was the only one silent after what happened. She was in such shock that she remained quiet and was ultimately airlifted to a children’s hospital to be treated. There will be plastic surgery on the horizon and a rabies shot after the violent attack by the pup.

Katie believed things would be okay given that they had insurance, but unfortunately, the Alabama mother was wrong. She has already shelled out three hundred dollars and knows there are more bills still coming in for various things. This includes Delyla’s helicopter ride and:

“the plastic surgeon appointment on Thursday, and the general surgeon appointment on Friday, on top of the ER visits for her rabies shots because only the ER carries it.”

There have also been special accommodations that the parents have had to purchase for the house to make life easier for the daughter. This meant having to set up a GoFundMe that they never expected or wanted to have to do.

A Little Help From Friends

The goal of the GoFundMe was just $2K but already, over $9K has been raised for Delyla McCay. This is a huge deal as it could help the family immensely. Those who have heard about the story were shocked that the dog had yet to be euthanized after what had gone down:

  • I’m surprised the dog was not euthanized by officials. The dog’s owner should be held responsible for the attack. I hope this little girl can make a full recovery with little or no scar both physically & emotionally.

Many believed that the child walking the Alabama pup should never have been doing so. Moreover, the owners of the dog should be responsible for all of the fines and bills in the long run. Time will tell what happens, but this is very sad for Delyla, and hopefully she heals quickly.
