4-Year-Old Twins Shot In Their Florida Home

Many young kids, especially young boys, play cops and robbers with fake guns. But two 4-year-old twin boys got their hands on an unsecured weapon in their family home. The results were terrifying. The young boys ended up hospitalized after pulling the trigger.

Police were dispatched to an Orlando, Florida, hospital over the weekend after staff called in to report two four-year-old twin boys were at the hospital with gunshot wounds. The children were taken to the hospital by their parents after a scary incident in their nearby home.

In the early morning of Saturday, November 8, 2025, the boys allegedly found the gun casually discarded in the couch cushions. The parents later told the police that they didn’t see exactly what happened.

The twins’ mother said she was in the kitchen cooking breakfast when she heard a “pop.” The father was outside grilling food and heard a “commotion” and rushed inside.

Parents Arrested On Various Charges

Keishara Goodrum, 39, and Maurice Bright, 40, were arrested after the police were called to the hospital. The twins’ mother, Keishara Goodrum, told the cops that she was drinking heavily the night before and left the gun unattended on the couch instead of securing it.

She was arrested on charges of two counts of child neglect with great bodily harm. Her husband faces charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Both are being held in jail on $10,000 bond.

The four-year-old twins, whose names weren’t released due to their age, suffered critical injuries but are expected to recover.

Florida Has Strict Laws Regarding Weapons & Minors

Three other children were reportedly home at the time of the shooting but were unharmed. Child Protective Services is involved in the case. However, PEOPLE magazine reported that the children’s father could retain custody if she posts bail.

The mother, who presumably owns the gun, could face more charges after violating state gun control laws. While Florida is overall considered lax about guns, it has strict laws about keeping guns in homes with minor children.

PEOPLE magazine reported that the law requires handguns to be secured if children under the age of 16 live in the home. “If a minor does gain access to an unsecured firearm, the owner may face criminal charges if the firearm is discharged, causing harm,” the law states.

“This law is designed to promote responsible gun ownership and protect minors from accidental firearm injuries,” the Florida Sheriff’s Association said about the gun control measure.

In addition to child neglect, Keishara Goodrum could face additional charges for having an unsecured handgun in the house with minor children.
