Missouri Couple Saves Girl From Falling Off 205-Ft Roller Coaster
The adrenaline rush of riding a roller coaster into the sky before a huge drop is something few theme park goers can resist. But a girl in Missouri might think twice next time. A couple in the seat next to her came to the rescue after a ride malfunction. They saved her from a 205-ft drop. Keep reading for the harrowing details of the near-death experience.
Six Flags Flagship Location Closes After 50 Years
Six Flags is one of the most popular theme parks in the United States. Taylor Swift’s fiance, Travis Kelce, recently made a huge investment in the franchise to keep it going for the next generation.
“I am a lifelong Six Flags fan and grew up going to these parks with my family and friends. The chance to help make Six Flags special for the next generation is one I couldn’t pass up,” the Kansas City Chiefs player said in a press release.

But it’s too late for one theme park in Maryland.
Six Flags America is officially closed after fifty years. The park opened in 1974 as a drive-thru safari park before adding rides and other attractions under the Six Flags name in 1999. The roller coasters took their last ride on November 2, 2025. The equipment and attractions may be relocated to other theme parks. One theme park in Missouri might be interested after a young girl nearly fell off a ride.
Missouri Couple Saves Girl From Falling Off 205-Ft Roller Coaster
Chris and Cassie Evans went to the Worlds of Fun amusement park in Kansas City, Missouri, on October 11, 2025, for a relaxing day. Instead, they saved a girl from a near-death experience after a ride malfunctioned.
The couple explained in detail the events of the day to PEOPLE magazine. They boarded the Mambo roller coaster, which has a drop of 205 feet. The ride had just started when they heard a “bloodcurdling scream” behind them. They thought the passenger was just reacting to riding a roller coaster for the first time.
But the situation was much more serious than that. Her seat belt had some undone just as the ride was gaining speed.
“I had looped my arm underneath her lap bar, which had a pretty big gap between her and the lap bar. So at this point, I’m seeing a huge space, no seat belt. I looped my arm underneath the lap bar, and I grabbed a hold of her wrist. My wife was pushing down on her legs,” Chris Evans explained.
But he quickly realized that wasn’t enough to keep the girl in her seat when the ride dropped 205 feet.

“As we crested each hill or as we started to go up to the top, I recognized that it was going to lift her out of her seat. So I kind of shifted our positions to, instead of holding her, to push down on her whole body to keep her from coming out of the seat while we’re going over those hills,” he added.
The heroic couple was able to keep the girl in her seat until the ride was over. They then reported the incident to the park’s management team.
Ride Reopens After Incident
The Missouri couple and the girl went their separate ways after the ride. But management took their complaint seriously and promptly shut the ride down. It was reopened later that day after an inspection.
The Worlds of Fun amusement park released a statement about the incident. “Following the report of a guest concern on the ride earlier this month, our team immediately closed the ride and completed a thorough inspection before reopening it that evening. The ride is equipped with a multi-layered restraint system, with the lap bar being the primary restraints and were found to be fully functioning in multiple inspections,” the amusement park said.
But that isn’t enough for Cassie Evans. “We probably won’t go back for a while. We need to see a change, and once we see that change I will be comfortable taking my four children [there] — who I am not comfortable taking currently,” she told the local news.
