Three men recently found themselves in trouble and cold water after riding various vehicles in Alaska, following through the ice. After Alaska State Troopers deployed crews to help, one person was reported missing, with a tragic update also later being shared in the case. In addition, authorities have also since issued a warning to residents.

The Three Men Were Riding Snowmachines & A Four-Wheeler At The Time Of The Incident

On November 1, around 11:20 AM local time, Alaska State Troopers deployed rescue crews near the state’s Lockhart Point. They had received a report that three men from Kotzebue fell through the ice.

The men were reportedly riding two snowmachines and a four-wheeler. Reportedly, multiple EMT personnel and local residents had gotten involved to help before the Alaska State Troopers’ arrived and aided in the search.

According to an Alaska Department of Public Safety press release, one of the men made it safely to shore. The other man was also said to be “self-rescued” before being taken to a local health clinic.

The third person, however, remained missing. It was also noted, “The Northwest Arctic Borough Search and Rescue and Kotzebue Fire Department are responding.”

Authorities Later Issued A Warning & A Tragic Update In The Case

Tragically, in a further update, it was shared that the man who had been taken to the clinic had lost his life. It was shared, “On Saturday, November 1, at 9:04 pm, the man rescued from the water, Elmer Brown, age 46 of Kotzebue, died at a local area health clinic.”

“Next of kin have been notified. Search efforts are continuing for the missing man. AST is coordinating with the Northwest Arctic Borough Search and Rescue program as well as other local agencies.”

After this incident, the Northwest Arctic Borough issued a warning on Facebook, telling people not to go out on the ice unless they are actively helping with the rescue operation. As shared in the statement, “Kotzebue: Please do not go out to the ice unless you are coordinating with Search and Rescue. The ice is not safe. Please keep our searchers safe by coordinating through Search and Rescue.”

As People noted, a similar incident occurred back in May, as shared in a similar release. A 32-year-old man, Skye Rench, was found in Alaska’s Susitna River a few months after disappearing. It was noted he had been traveling in a side-by-side ATV with four others after breaking through the ice. Three of the passengers escaped and survived, while another individual, Sean Kendall, was never found and is presumed dead.
