Gayle King Confirmed Out At ‘CBS Mornings’ Amid Mass Firings
CBS Mornings might look very different soon. Gayle King is reportedly leaving the morning show amid massive layoffs at the network. The news comes days after one of the nightly news anchors abruptly quit. Keep reading to find out the latest on the shocking news.
Gayle King Confirmed Out At CBS Mornings Amid Massive Layoffs?
Gayle King has been the face of CBS Mornings for over a decade. She joined the show in 2011 when it was called CBS This Morning. Oprah Winfrey’s bestie has weathered the exits of several co-anchors over the years.

Charlie Rose left the morning program in 2017 amid claims of sexual harassment, which he denied. Anthony Mason replaced him as co-anchor but left in 2021. Former NFL player Nate Burleson joined CBS Mornings later that year.
The current morning show co-anchors are Gayle King, Tony Dokoupil, and Nate Burleson. But that will reportedly change in 2026. Variety reported that Gayle King is on the way out after her contract expires. The news isn’t entirely surprising. Speculation about her status with the network has been swirling since she took a massive pay cut in 2024.
CBS Evening News anchor John Dickerman announced earlier this week that he’s leaving his position early next year. The network is undergoing a huge overhaul after a merger between Paramount Global and Skydance Media.
John Dickerman is leaving CBS entirely. However, Variety reported that Gayle King might be asked to stay on with the network in another role.

CBS Responds To Report
Gayle King has yet to respond to reports about her exit. However, CBS released a statement to PEOPLE magazine. The network denied the reports that the CBS Mornings co-anchor is leaving. “There have been no discussions with Gayle about her contract that runs through May 2026,” a spokesperson for the network told PEOPLE.
The spokesperson added, “She’s a truly valued part of CBS and we look forward to engaging with her about the future.”
The statement doesn’t deny outright that Gayle King is leaving CBS Mornings. The network did layoff multiple correspondents. The L.A. Times reported that Lisa Ling, Debora Patta, Janet Shamlian, Nancy Chen, and Nikki Battiste were let go from their positions with the network.
Stephen Colbert was fired earlier this year. His late-night talk show ends when his contract expires in May 2026. The layoffs and firings are a result of the new owners of Paramount Skydance moving away from “liberal” media coverage in a quest to become apolitical.
The departures of Stephen Colbert, John Dickerman, and Gayle King are likely just the start of the carnage coming to CBS amid massive budget cuts. Let us know in the comments if you think Paramount Skydance is moving in the right direction or going too far.
