Special Needs Boy, 5, Left On California Mountain Road
A five-year-old boy recently found himself far from home after boarding the wrong school bus. The kindergartner found himself on a California mountain road, miles away from where he was supposed to be. Since then, the child’s mother also touched on what happened.
The Boy Had Just Started Kindergarten At The Time Of The Incident
On Thursday, October 9, a 5-year-old student, Hendrix Camden, boarded a school bus once school was over at Amador County Unified School District. However, he was eventually dropped off at the wrong location.
The boy’s mother, Twilight, spoke with her son’s regular driver, who told her Hendrix wasn’t on the bus. Twilight was especially concerned, as Hendrix had special needs and had only just started kindergarten.

Speaking with CBS News Sacramento, Twilight recounted, “Yesterday, his normal bus driver showed up and we made eye contact, and he goes, ‘Hendrix isn’t on my bus today.'” In a statement with CBS News, she shared that another child on the bus told her that Hendrix had gone on another bus. She recalled, “I said, ‘Hold on, what do you mean he got on the other bus?’”
Twilight recounted that she soon began fearing for the worst. She shared, “I was hoping, praying that he didn’t get kidnapped.” Within an hour, she received a phone call telling her that her son had been found three miles from his home.
Twilight recalled, “I get back to my car and I’m getting a phone call from a random number, and they’re saying, ‘Hey, we have Hendrix.’ And I assumed it was a van driver, or he was just put on a different route or something.”
Twilight Is Now Looking For Answers Over What Happened
An employee from Kamps Tree Services claimed that they saw Hendrix walking down a road. The employee looked after the boy until his mother picked him up. Twlight later shared that her son walked a quarter of a mile down a two-lane, winding, mountain road before he was spotted.
The employee also recounted, “He came walking from around the corner over there and came up to this first house here, and since there was nobody there, he came around this way. He just wasn’t sure where he was at, and I tried to make him comfortable … until his mother came.”

At this time, Twilight is now looking for answers over what happened to her son, including those responsible for letting him board the wrong bus. Henrix himself told CBS what happened made him “sad.”
Twilight herself emphasized that this should have been avoided, sharing, “Protocol is for a kindergartner to be released to an adult or a parent, and if there’s not anybody there, you don’t have signal. You keep driving to the next stop and you call then.”
Twilight continued, “It just wasn’t handled correctly. All I want is for the schools to know what’s going on. Transportation, to know what’s going on. And something to get figured out right there.” Reportedly, the incident is still under investigation.
