Missouri Dad Tells Daughter To Attack Student, Faces Several Charges
A Missouri father is facing several charges after encouraging his 6-year-old daughter to attack another student while on a school bus. What do we know about this situation, and what charges is this father facing as a result of this incident?
A Case Of 90s-Style Parenting Gone Wrong?
With every new generation of school children, it’s on parents to raise their children a certain way. What worked while raising one generation does not always work for the one after that, and so on. While it was relatively common to hear parents telling their kids to “hit back” when it came to dealing with bullies in the 1990s and previous generations, generations after that have been raised significantly differently.
These days, when it comes to schoolyard violence, charges can be pressed and authorities can get involved. At least for one father in Missouri, his brand of old-school parenting has gotten him into some pretty serious trouble with the law, including several charges filed as a result.
Missouri Father Facing Several Charges
A father named Maurice Fox (36) “is facing several charges after allegedly instructing his 6-year-old daughter to attack another student on a bus in Missouri” according to PEOPLE. The incident in question happened roughly around 9 am on October 9.
PEOPLE notes of the incident, “Fox allegedly entered the bus with his 6-year-old daughter and when the bus driver told him to get off, he pushed his arm away and continued down the bus aisle.” Based on police footage, a man can be heard encouraging his daughter with phrases like, “Do what I told you to do.”
The man also threatens the other student, saying, “Hey, don’t put your hands on my daughter no more… ‘cause if I find out you’re touching her again, your parents will have to talk to me.”
In the footage, you can see and hear an adult encouraging his daughter to hit the student. After she takes several swings at the student, he even says, “Again.” As a result of this incident, Fox is being charged with first-degree harassment, trespass of a bus, and two counts of fourth-degree assault, relating to the student whom his daughter attacked, as well as the bus driver.
In response to the incident involving Maurice Fox, the Ferguson-Florissant School District said in a statement, “Student and staff safety is always our top priority, and we will not tolerate anything that compromises their safety. School buses are an extension of the school campus. Trespassing on a school bus and engaging in the behavior described in this incident are completely unacceptable.”
