Savannah Guthrie MIA From Today
Savannah Guthrie has been with NBC for years. She was promoted to co-host of the main Today Show in 2012. She fills many roles for the channel, from hosting the beloved Thanksgiving Day parade to leading the election coverage.
The popular host often fills in on the show’s fourth hour. Jenna & Friends has been searching for the perfect person to take over after Hoda Kotb left earlier this year to spend more time with her daughters.
A rotating list of guest hosts joins Jenna Bush Hager, but the show really needs a permanent co-host. A lot of viewers want that to be Savannah Guthrie, but it seems she has her eyes on a completely different show outside of the news genre.
Today Show viewers were surprised when Sheinelle Jones filled in for Savannah Guthrie on Monday, October 6, and Tuesday, October 7. The co-anchor was back on Wednesday, but never explained why she was MIA.
A new report suggests that Savannah Guthrie wasn’t available because she was filming another show.
Is She Leaving For New Show?
Savannah Guthrie is reportedly the latest television personality to take a turn as a game show host. Variety reported this week that the popular Today anchor is joining a game show based on the popular game, Wordle.
The New York Times purchased the word puzzle in 2022. Late-night host Jimmy Fallon is reportedly behind the television adaptation of the word game. Jimmy Fallon’s Electric Hot Dog production company is looking to expand to another game show. The company already produces Password, hosted by Keke Palmer.
Password films in Newark, New Jersey. If Wordle moves production there, Today fans worry that Savannah Guthrie will leave the morning show to focus on the game show. She was reportedly in England earlier this week to film a pilot for the game show.
Wordle Is All The Rage
Wordle became a popular pastime at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. The New York Times has exclusive rights to the puzzle game after acquiring it in 2022.
The popular word game involves guessing a five-letter word through trial and error. After you submit a guess, the letters turn colors. Green means the letter is correct and in the right spot, yellow means the letter is correct but in the wrong spot, and gray means the letter is not in the word at all. You have six tries to guess the five-letter word, and you can play once a day.
Jimmy Fallon has a history of fascination with the word game. He attempted to play the game on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon a few years ago. As many other players, he got frustrated over the confusing puzzle game.
A television version of Wordle hasn’t been officially added to NBC’s schedule. It’s reportedly still in the early stages of development. How the puzzle game translates to television isn’t clear.
