Wheel of Fortune calls itself America’s favorite game show. It’s been a television staple since 1975. Chuck Woolery was the original host, but Pat Sajak is the most well-known. Ryan Seacrest took over in 2024 after Pat’s retirement. Vanna White stayed on as co-host, at least for now.

The producers made a rare move recently that shocked fans. Keep reading to find out what’s going on.

Wheel Of Fortune Contestant Wins Big In Bonus Round

Despite hosting American Idol for years, Ryan Seacrest is still learning how to host Wheel of Fortune. It’s hard for viewers to see anyone else in the role besides Pat Sajak. Some fans find Ryan’s constant blathering to be annoying.

But a lot of times, it puts the contestants at ease. One contestant took home a shocking prize amount that left them completely speechless.

The Wheel of Fortune episode that aired on Thursday, October 9, featured a pickleball player (Kristyn Lyerly,)  a kindergarten teacher (Brittanie Ramsey,) and newlywed Dan Brumbacher.

Kristyn Lyerly turned her early lead into a huge cash prize and a trip to Greece. She correctly guessed the Bonus Round puzzle. Ryan Seacrest opened the prize envelope to reveal an additional $40,000. The pickleball player was speechless after winning a total of $65,648.

Producers Make Extremely Rare Move

Ryan Seacrest doesn’t just host Wheel of Fortune. He’s also the host of the Celebrity spinoff version. The spinoff premiered in 2021 with Pat Sajak and Vanna White as co-hosts. Pat Sajak came out of retirement to host Season 5 alongside Vanna White, but was replaced by Ryan Seacrest for Season 6.

The new season premiered last month with several cast members from ABC’s Dancing With The Stars. Pro dancer Jenna Johnson competed alongside the judges Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli. Jenna won, but all three took home cash for their chosen charities.

Derek Hough is about to be a first-time dad and was surprised by Vanna White with a homemade baby gift.

The contestants for the next episode on Friday, October 17, are Malin Akerman, Katie Lowes, and Jaime Ray Newman from Netflix’s hit series The Hunting Wives.

But viewers may see a schedule disruption this season after the producers made a rare move. Both game shows are filmed in Culver City, California. The U.S. Sun reported that filming for Celebrity Wheel of Fortune was unexpectedly canceled on Thursday, October 9.

The surprising move comes amid fan concern for Ryan Seacrest’s health. The reason for the cancellation wasn’t revealed.

“They are being very quiet about what is going on but they wouldn’t cancel like this if it was something with the guests,” an insider spilled to The Sun.

Filming for Celebrity Wheel of Fortune is expected to resume on Wednesday, October 22. The show airs on ABC on Fridays at 8 PM Eastern.
