Shemar Moore Back To Filming In Los Angeles, Sneak Peek Behind The Scenes
Former soap star Shemar Moore is back on set in Los Angeles months after the season finale aired on CBS. Keep reading to find out all the details on what he’s got in the works.
Spinoff Brings Back Fan Favorites After Backlash
In what might be a television first, the CBS show S.W.A.T. was canceled a shocking three times. The network first shared plans to end the show after Season 6 in 2023. But with the help of Shemar Moore rallying fans, the show was renewed for another season.
The show was meant to end with Season 7. But in a surprise move, CBS renewed it for Season 8. While fans hoped they could convince the network to continue the show, it ended in 2025 with Season 8.
But there was still hope. Shemar Moore announced days after S.W.A.T. ended that the show was coming back. Sony Pictures had approved a spinoff called S.W.A.T. Exiles.
The exciting news came with a disappointing twist: Shemar Moore was the only star from the previous show to sign on for the spinoff. Many fans called him a sellout for agreeing to do the show without his former co-stars.

He shut down the backlash, but it didn’t die down completely. Happily, Sony reconsidered. It was confirmed recently that two S.W.A.T. OGs will guest star on the spinoff. Jay Harrington and Patrick St. Esprit will reprise their roles as Sergeant Deacon Kay and Captain Hicks.
Shemar Moore Filming In Los Angeles
S.W.A.T. Exiles doesn’t have a network to air on yet. But Sony is going full steam ahead with the spinoff. Variety reported that filming began in Los Angeles, California, this week. Exiles reportedly follows Shemar Moore’s character, Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, when he comes out of retirement to help train a new S.W.A.T. team.
The cast includes Lucy Barrett, Adain Bradley, Zyra Gorecki, Freddy Miyares, and Ronen Rubinstein as law enforcement newbies.
“After a high-profile mission goes sideways, Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson is pulled out of forced retirement to lead a last-chance experimental SWAT unit made up of untested, unpredictable young recruits. Hondo must bridge a generational divide, navigate clashing personalities, and turn a squad of outsiders into a team capable of protecting the city and saving the program that made him who he is,” the summary breakdown of the show says.
Sneak Peek Behind The Scenes
Shemar Moore has been the biggest advocate for S.W.A.T. since the show began in 2017. He’s all-in on the spinoff, too.
“Get ready for ‘S.W.A.T.’ 2.0! After eight incredible years of defying the odds and entertaining the world, we’re about to take the franchise to a whole new level—bigger, better, and edgier. With a fresh cast and a darker, more intense Hondo, we’re ready to bring this story to life and show you what we’ve created together,” he said in a statement.
Production is officially underway on “S.W.A.T Exiles,” the spinoff series that will see Shemar Moore continue in the role of Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson.

He added, “Thanks to the fans and Sony for keeping us alive, you won’t want to miss what’s next!”
S.W.A.T.: Exiles showrunner Jason Ning said it was “electric” being back on set again. Variety reported that most of the crew on the spinoff worked on the CBS show.
The spinoff doesn’t have an official home yet. Several networks are reportedly in a bidding war for Exiles. Stay tuned for updates on the Shemar Moore-led show.
