However, in this instance, bystanders jumped in to render aid, making quite the scene in the process. So, what happened with this situation, and what else do we know?

Medical Helicopters Play A Vital Role For People In Distress

Depending on the situation, medical helicopters help people in need of rapid transport to hospitals and more. In some cases, these medical aircraft reach altitudes in mountains and other remote areas that traditional vehicles cannot reach. In this and many other instances, pilots and those onboard these aircraft play a vital role when it comes to saving lives, especially when time is of the essence.

Along with providing rapid transport, the personnel on these helicopters also administer life-saving care to stabilize people, often doing what is needed to keep them alive until hospital staff with better resources can take over. The role that these people play is vital, and many lives are saved because of medical helicopters and the people on board.

In a recent scene that unfolded in Sacramento, California, the tables turned. A medical helicopter crashed onto the highway, and it took the help of countless bystanders to save a paramedic who was trapped underneath. In a dramatic scene out of a Hollywood movie, an estimated 15 drivers got out of their vehicles and worked together in unison to help lift the helicopter.

Bystanders Work Together To Save Paramedic After Helicopter Crash

They managed to do this under the direction of Fire Captain Peter Vandersluis, who shouted “lift,” and then “hold,” once the drivers were able to lift the aircraft from the tail. Speaking of the dramatic scene, Vandersluis told the Associated Press, “Just out of instinct — the people were there willing to help, and they didn’t hesitate and followed my exact commands. And we were able to lift it up with ease.”

Thanks to the quick action from these bystanders, the paramedic, a nurse, and a pilot were all taken to the hospital in critical condition. However, things would have more than likely been much worse if not for the quick thinking of this group of people.
