Friendship Is One Of The Strongest Bonds There Is

In life, most people have at least two families. There is the family you are born into by blood, and the family you choose. When it comes to friendship, this bond can be one of the strongest ones there is. While some friendships or acquaintances can come and go, others can last an entire lifetime. If you happen to be one of those people who has a long friendship, especially one forged in childhood, it’s certainly something to be proud of.

According to the American Psychological Association, “People who have friends and close confidants are more satisfied with their lives and less likely to suffer from depression. They’re also less likely to die from all causes, including heart problems and a range of chronic diseases.”

In some cases, having a close friend or friends is not only good for our health, but it can even save lives.

Man In California Saves Childhood Friend From Burning Car

Based on recent updates making the rounds, a former Arizona State University student pulled his childhood friend from a burning car after a “high-speed crash” in California. Owen Emmons risked his life to save his buddy, Jackson Gutierrez, and his heroic action ended up saving a life. The accident took place in Newport Beach in 2021.

Following a UFC fight, the friends decided to go get food in separate vehicles. Gutierrez was a passenger in the vehicle that eventually crashed at high speed. Emmons stopped on the road and jumped into action, pulling his friend from the passenger’s side of the burning car.

Speaking of his quick thinking in this crisis situation, Emmons said, “I didn’t have any medical experience at all, in my head it kicked in and took action… set a tourniquet and stop the bleeding once I moved him from the vehicle.”

Gutierrez ended up surviving the crash and recovering in the hospital, even though it took months. Unfortunately, Gutierrez lost both legs above the knee, but he is alive today thanks to the quick thinking of his friend.

Honoring the heroic action of Emmons, he is receiving one of the nation’s highest civilian honors for heroism. He has been awarded the Carnegie Medal, which recognizes “individuals who risk their lives to save others.”
