California Woman Takes Out Billboard Looking For Love After Tragedy
There are many paths on the road to love. One woman in the San Francisco area, however, decided to think outside of the box to make a connection. She launched a billboard campaign to spread the word for potential Mr. Rights, following her own tragic love story.
One San Francisco Native Decided To Think Outside Of The Dating Apps
Lisa Catalano, a 42-year-old San Francisco Bay area native, wanted to find love in her life. However, she began to grow tired of dating apps that never seemed to lead to anything.
Instead, Catalano decided to do something unexpected in her quest for love. It would be something that would certainly get the attention of local bachelors.

Catalano launched a website, dubbed “MarryLisa.com,” in which men could apply for a date with her. As a further promotion, the site was featured on a variety of digital billboards across Santa Clara and South San Francisco. Increasing visibility, the ads also appeared on the top of local taxis.
Looking back, Catalano shared that she surprised herself by being able to pull off such a stunt. Speaking with People, she shared, “I never expected I would do something like this in my life. I’m almost in shock that I did it, really.”
Catalano noted that the project even started as something of a joke. She shared, “Every time I would get frustrated with how the dating scene in general was, I would spend another five, 10 minutes just typing away on my computer, making the website just kind of as a little creative outlet.”
However, the more Catalano worked on the site, the better it looked. She even revealed that her family soon came around to the idea: “I think that they thought it was a little bit crazy of an idea at first, and then it took anywhere from 10 minutes to two weeks, depending on the person, to kind of come around to the idea.”
Even with a website, Catalano felt that the billboards would be an effective way to share her story. After all, it would also help limit the prospective applicants to locals in the area.
The billboards are simple, featuring Catalano and the website written out on a black background. While targeting both morning and evening commuters, she didn’t want an ad that was too busy, since they only play for around eight seconds.

Catalano explained, “I wanted something that was just very simple, to the point and little bit eye catching,” noting that she wanted to avoid using a QR code. She also shared that she would reveal a breakdown of the cost once the promotion helps her find someone.
Since the website and billboards went live back on September 2, many assumed that Catalano has been dealing with a “never been kissed” situation. However, she explained that the situation is a bit more complicated.

Catalano was previously in a multi-year engagement. However, her fiancé tragically passed away due to a terminal illness back in 2023. When she decided to move forward, however, the world of dating apps felt foreign to her.
Catalano also shared that people have expressed mixed feelings over the idea. As she shared, “It’s almost like a 50/50 split on this. People either love the idea or they hate it. They either think what I’m doing is incredible and inspiring and brave, or they think that I’m just the worst person on earth, and there’s no in between.”
