Oklahoma Neighbors Help ‘Lost’ Child, Uncover Abuse Case
Vigilant neighbors recently got involved when a child was seen wandering the streets in Moore, Oklahoma. Soon, however, they realized that something more sinister was going on. Once local police got involved with the case, the case eventually led to multiple arrests.
Residents Originally Saw The Child Wandering ‘In And Out Of The Traffic’
On September 21, Moore police responded to a house after a resident called about a disturbing discovery. Residents in the area had noticed that a child was wandering the streets, even walking in and out of traffic at points.
Neighbors originally believed that the child was simply lost. However, a few red flags soon came to light about the situation, especially after the police became involved.

According to ABC 7, the Moore Police Department shared, “The child told the resident and us he had ran away from home due to abuse, alleged abuse, that had been occurring in the home.” One local resident, Clint Byley, also shared that the child “was kind of wandering in and out of the traffic and roadway.”
The police soon noticed that the child had an infected open wound on one of his feet. Byley added, “Officers witnessed visible scars, injuries, on his feet.”
Soon, the child’s parents arrived at the scene. Reportedly, they had noticed that their child had gone missing. Byley shared, “A few minutes later, the parents arrived at the scene to talk about their missing child, and we informed them he had been found. Then we escorted them back to the Moore Police Department where they had been interviewed.”
During this interview, the child was then taken to a local hospital for treatment. In addition to his injuries, the child was also found to be malnourished.
Reportedly, the parents admitted to abusing the child and were later arrested. According to police records, they claimed to have used lighters to burn the bottom of the child’s foot.
The Oklahoma Institute For Child Advocacy CEO Also Talked About The Case
In a reaction to the story, Joe Dorman, CEO of the Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy, shared, “Unfortunately, my initial reaction was, ‘Here we go again.'”
While Dorman said that this type of abuse was alarming, Dorman praised the vigilant neighbors for helping the child, saying their actions ultimately led to the parents’ arrest. He shared, “The number one thing that you should watch for is isolation. Oftentimes, families that abuse children try to keep those kids isolated.”

Dorman also shared that people should be cautious when they see parents acting suspiciously. He continued, “If the parents are acting suspicious, it certainly doesn’t hurt to check, and if you don’t feel comfortable checking yourself, contact the authorities.”
Both parents are in the Cleveland County Detention Center on child abuse charges. Meanwhile, the child is in state custody and described as “safe.” The identity of the parents had been withheld from outlets in order to protect the child’s identity.
