Four Police Officers & Four Firefighters Were Taken To Local Hospitals For Medical Treatments After Arriving To The Scene

According to Crestwood police, officers and fire crews responded to an incident which took place this past Tuesday. The situation unfolded in the 100 block of Central Avenue.

Eight emergency responders were hospitalized due to the incident. This included four police officers and four firefighters.

The eight were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. According to officials, they have since been released.

At this time, there had been speculation that the incident was tied to a possible methamphetamine lab. Speaking with The Chicago Tribune, Chief Jonathan Newton shared some light on the situation.

According to Newton, a Crestwood apartment building contained what is being alleged as a “hidden drug laboratory.” Various factors determined the eight responders being treated at the hospital, including not knowing what drugs were present. In addition, one individual was described as having a “medical emergency.”

A Village’s Hazmat Team Has Also Investigated The Area To See If It Is Currently Safe

The police officers and the firefighters were treated at different places. The police were taken to Palos Community Hospital. The firefighters were treated at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. Newton also confirmed that the eight have since been released.

A village’s hazmat team was also said to have responded to the report and investigated the area. It has since been deemed safe. On Wednesday afternoon, Newton also confirmed that the scene was “not a danger to residents.”

According to Country Herald, residents in the area were not made to evacuate. However, local police urged caution, advising locals to use “safety protocols.”

According to Fox 32, the suspect believed to have operated the possible meth lab has also since been hospitalized. Their condition has not been made public.

At this time, no charges have been announced regarding the case. The person involved has not been publicly identified/ The investigation is also said to still be ongoing, with Crestwood police working with Illinois State Police.

CBS Chicago also reported on the story, saying that authorities arrived on the scene due to “reports of someone having a medical issue.” According to the outlet, the person who faced the emergency situation was said to be in “serious condition” at the time.
