Kansas Woman Fatally Shoots Army Husband In Face While Holding Baby Daughter

Crime Scene

Tragedy struck in Kansas when a woman fatally shot her Army husband in the face. This all happened while he had their 11-month-old baby in his arms. So, what happened with this situation, and what else do we know about everything that went down?

Spouse Violence Often Leads To Murder

Watch any crime drama that has been on television in the last 30 years, and it will teach you that, more often than not, when a husband or wife is murdered, the spouse is often the culprit. According to the US Department of Justice, “for every 100 men who killed their wives in the United States during 1976-85, about 75 women killed their husbands. Women committed a substantially larger proportion of spousal homicides in the United States than elsewhere.”

This is just a sample of data. However, this is certainly an interesting figure to note. For this sample, in addition to the United States, the Department of Justice also pulled numbers from Canada, Australia, and Great Britain in that time. Certainly, that statistic has only been added to in recent years.

Unfortunately, in this case, Greg Shafe lost his life following this shooting. What makes this reality even worse is that he was supposed to be deployed to Poland. However, he chose to stay home and take care of his wife and their young daughter, a decision that proved fatal.

Kansas Woman Fatally Shoots US Army Husband, What Happened?

Based on the latest updates from TooFab, an Army husband captured his wife threatening to kill him on an audio recording. This was mere minutes before she eventually shot him in the face. This all went down while he was holding the couple’s 11-month-old baby in his arms.

31-year-old Kansas woman Margaret E. Shafe was given the maximum possible sentence for her crime. She was sentenced to 293 months behind bars, which equates to more than 24 years for the February 2024 shooting of her husband, Greg Shafe. After the shooting, Greg fell into the bathroom, where the pair’s 9-year-old daughter was brushing her hair.

Prior to the shooting, Greg Shafe was scheduled to be deployed to Poland. However, because the couple had just had a baby, Greg decided to stay home and care for his wife and child. Unfortunately for him, this decision ultimately led to his death.

Prosecutors described Shafe as “intoxicated” when she and her husband had that final argument, as she was “hurling threats of violence.” Greg stepped outside to de-escalate the situation. When he eventually came back in, she used his firearm and shot him with a single bullet to the face, all while he was holding the couple’s young child.

According to a statement from US Attorney Ryan A. Kriegshauser, he said, “Margaret Shafe deserves to go to prison. The evidence in this case showed she murdered her husband while the couple’s two young daughters were in the home.”
