Omaha, Nebraska native Terence “Bud” Crawford was recently crowned the new super middleweight boxing champion after his unanimous decision victory over Canelo Alvarez. While this has certainly been a time of celebration for Crawford and his fans since this big moment in his boxing career, things recently took a turn after a stop by local police in Omaha.
Terence Crawford has an impressive boxing record of 42-0 with 31 knockouts. However, despite all the celebration and fanfare, a recent stop by Omaha police has been making the rounds, and it has been causing quite a stir online as well among commenters.
Details Emerge After Controversial Traffic Stop
ESPN notes that the boxing champion received a ticket for “reckless driving” early on Sunday morning. This came just hours after thousands of people showed up for a downtown parade in the boxer’s honor. Video footage of the traffic stop has been making the rounds online, taken by the cellphone of one of Crawford’s entourage in the vehicle at the time.
Omaha Mayor John Ewing and Police Chief Todd Schmaderer said in a statement that they ordered a review of the traffic stop. The Police Chief also ordered an internal investigation as well.
All four passengers were ordered out of the car at gunpoint after officers spotted a firearm on the driver’s side floorboard. One passenger was a member of Crawford’s security team, with the boxer being the one behind the wheel. According to police, all occupants were legally allowed to carry firearms.
