Roger Howarth is joining the cast of The Young and the Restless. However, exactly who he is playing is unknown at this time. Thanks to this, fans are already guessing just who he could be playing. In fact, some fans suspect Howarth’s joining the soap could mean another character’s return.

Roger Howarth Has Had Quite A History With Soaps, From One Life to Live To General Hospital

Howarth has had a long career in soaps. Getting his start with dramas like Loving and Guiding Light, he later found one of his most famous roles playing Todd Manning on One Life to Live. In the 2000s, he played Paul Ryan on As the World Turns.

Starting in 2012, Howarth appeared on General Hospital for a decade-long stint, playing multiple characters. Originally, Howarth reprised his role as Todd Manning before taking on the roles of Franco Baldwin and Austin Gatlin-Holt.

As reported by Deadline Hollywood, it was announced that Howarth would be making his return to the soap opera world by joining the cast of The Young and the Restless. At the time, it was announced that his character and storyline were “being kept under wraps.” However, it was teased he would start filming in mid-September, debuting on the soap later this year.

That said, fans are already wondering just who Howarth could be playing. Thinking he’ll be playing a character fans haven’t seen in a while in Genoa City. Some suspect he could be Caleb Atkinson.

Caleb was the late twin brother of Cane Ashby. He was revealed to have been shot on the soap during a story where it originally appeared that Cane had been killed.

However, the dead don’t always stay dead in the world of soap operas. The character could be brought back 15 years after his death to start trouble on, or at least bring more drama to, the soap. In 2025, Cane himself famously returned to the soap after leaving in 2019. Played by Billy Flynn, the character was initially presented as the mysterious “Aristotle Dumas” before his identity came to light.

Fans Suspect Two Brothers Might Finally Meet Face-To-Face

Interestingly, some fans suspect another actor’s comments could hint at this storyline. Michelle Stafford recently took to Instagram to share, “Our show just got a little more bad a–. Just so you know, more surprises to come.” This was in light of both Howarth’s casting and that of Tamara Braun.

If Caleb does return, he could reignite plans Cane left behind to take down rival companies. Stafford’s character, Phyllis, believed in Cane’s plans and could possibly team up with Caleb if such a storyline is explored.

One issue with the idea, however, is that Caleb and Cane were established as twins, and their resemblance was a plot point. However, this could be explained in some way or even dropped entirely. After all, a change in appearance comes in handy when faking a death.

Howarth playing Caleb would also be timely for another reason. As the character’s existence was explained after his death, he was technically portrayed by Cane’s actor at the time, Daniel Goddard. For his part, Goddard recently joined the cast of General Hospital as Professor Henry Dalton, a soap Howarth has had quite a history with.

Of course, only time will tell who Howarth will play on The Young and the Restless. Fans will have to tune into the soap to see what happens next.

What do you think about the idea of Roger Howarth playing Caleb? Have you been keeping up with The Young and the Restless? What do you think will happen next? Make sure you come back to TV Shows Ace for all the latest TV and celebrity news.
