Kate Gosselin Shares Unusual Way She Dealt With Kids Leaving

Viewers saw the Gosselin family go through various ups and downs through their reality shows. Recently, Kate Gosselin made headlines with her return to social media. Since then, she has also opened up about an unusual way she’s been dealing with empty nest syndrome.

Kate and her former husband Jon Gosselin share eight children together, made up of a pair of twins and a set of sextuplets. Audiences were introduced to the family through various reality shows, including Jon & Kate Plus 8.

Following their divorce, the series was famously retooled as Kate Plus 8, focusing on Kate’s life as a divorced mother. Over the years, Kate has been part of various shows, including Dancing with the Stars, The View, and Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test.

Towards the end of July, Kate made headlines after she made a return to the public life with her TikTok channel. During a recent video, she talked about what it was like after her oldest twins, Mady and Cara, went off to college.

Kate admitted to an unusual way of coping with the change. She would imagine that her daughters were simply asleep upstairs and not away at school.

In the video, Gosselin shared, “I couldn’t accept the fact that they left, they were gone at college and I wasn’t going to see them until the holidays. So, I unhealthily coped and that’s how I dealt with it,” The video also showed Kate as she sewed a button on her son Joel’s suit.

Kate also shared that, early on, she and her daughters would FaceTime together. However, she shared that in time, “After that, they found friends and I didn’t hear from them as much, which scared me.”

Kate Gosselin Also Shared What Helped Her Move On

Initially, Kate shared that she was afraid for her daughters’ safety. However, she admitted speaking with a friend helped her move on.

Kate added, “By the time the little kids went to college – they go to college closer to home, which is nice – it was a little easier because they could come home on the weekends. It didn’t feel so final, I guess is what I’m trying to say.”

Ultimately, Kate shared that it was a good thing to see your children grow up. She continued, “In all of this ‘empty nest’ stuff, don’t forget what our goal is. As a parent, it’s to prepare our kids to be functional, productive members of society. So, when they go to college, it’s a good thing and they’re growing up. It’s the next step and they still need us, but not as much, and that’s okay.”
