There has been a major shake-up for the long-running streaming service, Hulu, but is it officially closing down? Subscribers are fearing the worst, which makes sense anytime a big change comes along. So, what is the status, and will it be going away? Keep reading for more details.

Is Hulu Closing Down Amid Big Changes?

It has been almost two decades since Hulu first arrived on the scene and gave Netflix a run for its money. Hulu began in 2008, one year after Netflix, and many have subscribed to both. Although they tend to share shows, both have original and exclusive content. There was a point when Hulu had the rights to all Bravo shows, but that went away with the arrival of Disney+. Yet, there are many bundles that followers can choose that can be a great bang for the buck. Now, there are some big changes ahead, and many are wondering what this means in the long run.

As of 2026, both Hulu and Disney+ will be merging into one platform. Currently, users can get them as a package or on their own. Regardless, this is a twist that no one saw coming, and it makes everyone question where they will head. Many of the same shows can be streamed on both platforms, either simultaneously or at different times of the year. Disney+ has purchased the up-in-the-air streamer, and they will become one, per CEO Bob Iger and CFO Hugh Johnston:

“Today we are announcing a major step forward in strengthening our streaming offering by fully integrating Hulu into Disney+.”

As of now, there is no streaming shutdown, and both will keep moving as they did before. Moreover, each platform can be purchased alone well into the next year, so subscribers are safe. This is nothing new, as the two streamers have been partners since 2009. Their unification became even stronger in 2025, and now they will officially be joined at the hip. The individual programming will still stay the same, as of now.

What Is The Cost?

There are often promotions to bundle both services, but what will the ultimate cost be when the two merge? That is unknown, but they may offer an introductory price to get streamers interested or to feel more comfortable. It is unclear why the change was made, but one less streamer to worry about may make life far easier. Followers have weighed in on what they hope will happen down the line:

  • So when Disney & Hulu become HuDis, we better see a lower price.
  • HAHAHAHAHA, just more profits for a huge corporation

Hopefully, this will work for everyone, and no one will have to miss out on their favorite programming. Are you worried about Hulu’s fate, or do you think that this is a good move? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
