Kelly Clarkson’s Ex Brandon Blackstock Dead At 48
News has come out that Brandon Blackstock, Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband and talent manager, has passed away. This came out after the American Idol alum recently opened up about his health issues in a recent post on social media. Blackstock was 48 at the time of his passing.
A Rep For The Family Confirmed The News Of Brandon Blackstock’s Passing In A Statement
Brandon is the son of Narvel Blackstock and Elisa Gayle Ritter. He is also a former stepson of country music star Reba McEntire through his father’s marriage to her from 1989 to 2015.
For many, Brandon is known for his marriage to pop star and inaugural American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson. Brandon’s father, Narvel, had previously served as Clarkson’s manager.
During their marriage, Brandon also served as Kelly’s manager. Marrying in 2013, the two shared two children together, River and Remington. The couple eventually divorced in 2022.
Blackstock also reportedly had two children from a previous marriage, Savannah and Seth. He became a grandfather in 2022 with the birth of Savannah’s son, Lake.
Tragically, a rep for the family recent confirmed that Brandon had passed away at the age of 48. Speaking with People, a statement read, “It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away.”
The News Came Out After Kelly Clarkson Opened Up About A Family Emergency On Social Media
“Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”
The news had notably come out after Kelly took to Instagram to announce she would be postponing a few of her upcoming Las Vegas residency shows following a family emergency. At the time, she shared, “Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas. While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them.”

In his career, Brandon also worked as a manager for Blake Shelton. In 2018, Clarkson talked about working with Brandon with Marie Claire. At the time, she shared, “I wouldn’t have hired Brandon to be my manager if I didn’t see first-hand how great he is at that and how much he cares about Blake.”
“And the way that [Blake’s] career has blown up, I would have hired Brandon regardless. He’s really talented at what he does and his mind really does work in a completely different way.”
