‘Plathville’ Olivia Says Barry Locked Her In Room, Performed Exorcism
A comment made by Ethan Plath’s ex Olivia on social media has recently gotten Welcome to Plathville fans talking. A story has come out alleging that she had once been part of an exorcism, performed by her former father-in-law. Fans have taken to social media to weigh in on the story, sharing various reactions.
A Comment Made By Olivia On A TikTok Video Recently Got Fans Talking
Viewers were introduced to the Plath family with the TLC series Welcome to Plathville. The series, which premiered in 2019, focuses on Barry and Kim Plath and their children.
Olivia, who works as a photographer, married Ethan Plath in October 2018. Following this, the two announced their split after five years in 2023.
Since then, Olivia has shared her side of the story on TikTok, discussing her life with the Plath family and the fallout of her and Ethan’s split. One alleged share, however, recently brought about a discussion among fans.
On social media, one fan shared a screenshot of a comment that was attributed to Olivia, appearing to be a response to a comment on one of her TikTok videos. The post shared, “Barry once locked me in a dark room to try to cast ‘demonic spirits’ out of me.”
The post continued, “Kim was in cahoots with him.” At the time, this had been in response to a comment shared on one of her videos, reading, “I imagine Barry was even worse behind closed doors.”
On the main video, Oliva shared an audio video, which was captioned: “This abusive man and his family are on a US based reality show. I’ve reported their hateful behavior and abuse towards me to Discovery/TLC but the network dismissed me.”
Some Fans Shared Similar Stories From Their Own Lives, Others Questioned The Comment
With the fan’s recent share, other commenters weighed in on the issue. In particular, commenters who came from backgrounds similar to the Plath family also commented on the story. As one fan shared, “As someone who came from a VERY similar religious background, this doesn’t surprise me at all.”
“Granted, it never happened to me personally, but I witnessed that kind of thing in person multiple times. Exorcisms were pretty commonplace. I’m honestly surprised they didn’t encircle her and hold her down ‘screaming in tongues’ over her. Because that is part of for the course as well.”

That said, some felt that Olivia’s comments went against previous statements she’s said about what things were really like on the show. Meanwhile, other fans came out in Olivia’s defense. Some comments included:
- “I’m so confused didn’t she say Barry was super chill and a good guy? Her story keeps changing.”
- “Don’t get me wrong I’m not an Ethan fan by any means, I think they’re both awful but Olivia is a liar and so disingenuous.”
- “And the red flags just keep coming, old and new. That entire family is toxic and malignant. I feel sorry for anyone who dates any of them. I hope the younger girls turn out better, but, when that’s the kitchen they are being cooked in, I doubt it.”
- “I thought she said Barry was ok and just trying to be a good dad/husband. Wtf Olivia if that happened you would never have considered him ok.”

Always thought Barry was creepy with his children. There was just something “off” with both Barry and Kim. The way they treated Olivia was deplorable and abusive. Their behavior was self-serving and not in the best interest of Ethan or Olivia. So relieved when Olivia left Ethan. She was growing and had evolved emotionally, socially, intellectually, spiritually, while Ethan’s development was/is seriously stunted. He’s immature and his thinking about women is backwards, chauvinistic and nauseating. The Platt family is like a cult. It’s hard for cult members to break away and we’ve seen this play out again with Micah. Veronica has some issues, but this is no excuse for how Barry and many of the Plaths have disrespectfully treated her. They lie and gaslight all over the place. With Barry and Kim it was their way or the highway. It’s sad to see their adult children blinded to reality. It’s a very sad and unsettling show to watch.
