‘Bachelorette’ Katie Thurston Rants About Cancer Misdiagnosis
Bachelorette star Katie Thurston was told incorrectly that she had Stage 3 breast cancer. She actually had Stage 4 breast cancer that spread to her liver. The reality star ranted against the hospital that misdiagnosed her.
Katie Thurston Shares Liver Cancer Update
Katie Thurston was diagnosed with breast cancer in February. She started taking medication to fight the cancer. The reality star has shared every step since her diagnosis with her social media followers on Instagram and the Boobie Broadcast channel.
The Bachelorette star had the medical scans in early July for the first time since her diagnosis. She shared a horrible experience with an earlier MRI. However, the recent scans went smoothly without any problems. She revealed on social media that the cancer in her breast has decreased, but she was still waiting on the PET scan results for the liver cancer.
Katie Thurston returned to social media to share more good news. The PET scan showed that the liver cancer was “basically non-existent.”
She Can’t Sue The Hospital That Misdiagnosed Her
Katie Thurston’s cancer battle so far has had more twists and turns than a season of The Bachelorette. She was living in California at the time of the diagnosis, but in the process of moving to New York City to start her life with her then-fiance, Jeff Arcuri. The comic is now her husband. They eloped in March.
She has publicly named Kaiser as her medical provider when she was in California. They told her that the breast cancer was Stage 3, HER+, and wanted to start her on chemotherapy immediately.
But due to the move, she transferred her care to a hospital in New York City. Her new team of doctors redid the tests before starting treatment. The new results showed that the cancer was Stage 4, but HER-, which was a less aggressive form of breast cancer that can be treated with oral medications instead of chemotherapy.
But by that point, Katie Thurston had already started the process of IVF, sparked by the Stage 3 diagnosis.
She said on Instagram that one reason why Kaiser misdiagnosed her was that they didn’t do a PET scan, and therefore missed that the cancer had spread to her liver.
Katie Thurston was rightly livid over the misdiagnosis. She filed a formal complaint against Kaiser because she doesn’t want anyone else to be misdiagnosed.
In a new missive on the Boobie Broadcast, Katie Thurston said it was nearly impossible to sue Kaiser, especially in her case. She doesn’t really have a case because their misdiagnosis “almost” led to consequences but didn’t. She said that her case is more of a “you f*cked me over” case than a legitimate lawsuit.
Bachelorette Star Thanks Universe For Stage 4 Diagnosis
Being diagnosed with cancer is scary enough but a Stage diagnosis is terrifying. Despite the diagnosis, Katie Thurston is thankful that she’s Stage 4 instead of Stage 3. Stage 4 sounds more serious than Stage 3, but her cancer is less aggressive than previously thought and the treatment seems to be working so far.
She said that she thanks “God, the universe, everything” every day for the chain of events that led her to the right diagnosis.
