Fans Criticize Two HGTV Stars Amid Network Shakeup

HGTV fans have recently seen the network endure some big changes. In particular, quite a few popular series have recently come to an end on the network. Since then, two of the network’s stars have come under criticism as a new show is set to be released.

A Few HGTV Shows Have Recently Met Their End, But Other Shows Are Set To Take Their Place

HGTV has cancelled quite a few shows as of late. These include shows like Bargain BlockFarmhouse Fixer, Izzy Does It, and Married to Real Estate.

Despite this, the network still has a few upcoming shows that are set to premiere, including this year. However, one such show has already brought out criticisms from fans amid these recent cancellations.

Jonathan and Drew Scott, famously known as the Property Brothers, have seen a number of their shows broadcast in the United States on HGTV. As noted by their magazine, they are already set to come out with their latest series, Chasing the West.

The series is expected to see the brothers focus on projects based in the rural areas of the West, including Arizona, California, and Texas. According to a description, “the Bros are embracing their rancher roots and taking their cowboy skills to a new frontier by helping families swap their city subway cards for a new life on the range.”

In a statement, Drew shared, “We grew up on a ranch in some of the most beautiful country around, and now we’re helping a new generation of people achieve that dream.” Jonathan added, “The lessons we’ve learned and our passion for the ways of the West made us who we are, and we wouldn’t trade it for the world.”

Chasing the West is set to premiere on July 10, 2025, at 9 PM ET/PT. The first season will be made up of eight hour-long episodes.

Some HGTV Fans Feel That The Property Brothers Have Had Enough Shows Already, At Least Amid Recent Cancellations

However, with how things are going with the network, many HGTV fans aren’t too happy with the news. On social media, one fan especially highlighted how the Scott brothers have already had quite a few shows on the network. This includes shows like Celebrity IOUDon’t Hate Your House, and the original Property Brothers.

The commenter noted, “The over-exposed Property Brothers have a new show. Just what we need, another Property Brothers Show… Can they just go away?”

Taking to social media, various fans have shared similar sentiments. Others have also noted that this seems to be an ongoing issue with various networks. Even a few of the Scott brothers’ fans seemed to agree that other shows deserved better. Some comments included:

  • “So bored with them.”
  • “They have had at least 10 shows on HGTV. Enough is enough.”
  • Canceling 3 great shows while adding more Scott brothers shows is frankly disappointing. Same thing on Food Network. I’ve seen enough of Guy Fieri and Bobby Flay. I’ve canceled cable and only use apps and Discovery+ is going up in July. Might be time to cancel that too.”
  • “Ugh. They cut quality shows then shove this down our throats. I am out.”
  • “I like them but won’t be watching HGTV anymore after they cancelled my favorite show Bargain Block which is actually helping bring back housing in Detroit!”

  1. I agree, enough is enough. They’re overexposed already and people are tired of them. Sll their designs look pretty much alike and HGTV has completely changed their format over time so that there are no actual garden shows and few DIY shows which used to be their bread and butter and formed the backbone of the network. Now the shows are all about product placement and advertisements for the Scott Bros Rooms To Go overpriced collection of stuff.

While it may not be true, a common perception that is becoming accepted is that HGTV is purging anything and anyone that smacks of DEI – same sex couples or anything LGTBQ+, brown or black people, anyone that doesn’t fit the mold of white middle aged straight (MAGA?) men.

Rock The Block was fun for a bit but Ty Pennington has made yelling loudly all the time his entire annoying persona and Allison Victoria is an ill tempered one-trick pony with a bad attitude and and such expensive over-the-top designs that she’s totally unrelatable to average viewers. I don’t know how My Lottery Dream Home has managed to hang on with the overtly gay host that has turned himself into a mincing tattooed caricature that is unpleasant to both see and hear.

Many of us have given up on HGTV and Magnolia (so tired of the Gaines) and are streaming older home and garden shows from outside the US, particularly Canada, the UK and Australia and learning about quality content on YouTube channels, exchanging info via the HGTV subReddit.

We all know these shows are expensive to produce but the trend is obvious and viewers are going elsewhere fast. No viewers = no eyes on the expensive commercials and product placement.
