Did The Simpsons really kill off Marge Simpson in the Season 36 finale? The longest-running American animated series hit fans hard when it appeared that the beloved matriarch had died. So, what can viewers expect, and will she come back? Keep reading for more details.

Is Marge Really Dead?

The Simpsons has had an interesting dynamic for the last thirty-six seasons. All of the animated characters essentially do not age, and like many cartoons, they are always dressed in the same outfits. At this point, Maggie Simpson, who is the baby, should be in her mid to late thirties. Eldest son Bart should be nearing fifty, but the three kids are still just that. Yet, the hit FOX series, which began on The Tracey Ullman Show, has amassed a huge fanbase who were shocked when Marge Simpson was killed off. Now, the big question is whether or not she is actually deceased or if it is a dream.

Matt Selman, executive producer of the show, is clearing the air right now. Although the series seemed to time jump, and Marge passed away before Homer, she is not dead. Fans have been panicking over the future of the show and what her death could mean. To that, Matt shared this:

“There is no canon. ‘The Simpsons’ doesn’t even have canon!”

He added that Marge will likely never be deceased on the series as it goes on, with the exception of the Season 36 finale:

“Obviously, since ‘The Simpsons’ future episodes are all speculative fantasies, they’re all different every time. Marge will probably never be dead ever again. The only place Marge is dead is in one future episode that aired six weeks ago.”

To be fair, The Simpsons did not appear to show a date of death for Marge. Therefore, it can be presumed that this is a speculative situation. In reality, people worry about their mortality, so why wouldn’t Marge think about it? More so, why wouldn’t her husband or children wonder what the future held for them? At the same time, viewers have grown used to the future episodes with Lisa and Bart as adults, both polar opposites. Plus, Homer appears to have passed on, so to lose Marge would be huge.

Rest Easy

As of now, The Simpsons fans can rest easy that Marge Simpson is not going anywhere, at least as of now. This episode scared a lot of fans who felt it was over for her. More so, some had not watched the show in a while and were alerted to the death, which had them chattering:

  • B*tch why ain’t nobody tell me Marge done went to the UPPER ROOM?!? Haven’t we been through enough?!?
  • Oh no, not Marge! I guess Homer will have to start doing his own grocery shopping now. Hopefully, he doesn’t mix up the donuts and the vegetables!

There were some viewers who knew how The Simpsons went and felt that this was all thinking ahead. It had been noted that the voice actors are aging, which could be a problem for their characters. However, no one needs to worry, and Marge should be back to her lively self in the Fall.

Were you worried she was actually dead, and would that have made you turn the show off? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
