Parvati Shallow Details Terrifying Cult Upbringing
For four seasons, Parvati Shallow was known for her time on Survivor. Her journey began in 2006, where she placed sixth, followed by a run in 2008. That was the season that she came out as the winner, which was a huge deal. She was the runner-up in 2010, and a decade later, she came in 15th place. Parvati was also featured on Season 2 of The Traitors and Deal or No Deal Island 2. She will return to her roots in 2025 for Season 13 of Australian Survivor. Maybe she will take home the gold again. In the meantime, she is spilling the tea on her life and the most personal moments.
This includes her upbringing in a cult, which shaped her as a child. No one can possibly imagine the horror that Parvati went through or how it has affected her as an adult. She explained that she was born into a commune with a very controlling guru. This person would attempt to adopt their followers’ babies and even arrange marriages. Furthermore, they constantly gathered money from the people involved, as stated in her new book, “Nice Girls Don’t Win.” Parvati took the time to speak to her parents to gain a better understanding of the life they lived.

The Survivor winner also discussed the control that was had. Followers found themselves in bad situations if they were not attentive during meditation sessions. It seems that there was relentless control, but Parvati Shallow has seen that all she went through has never left her. She plays the games in the same way that the guru did and has similar playing tactics. Finally, she sees how she still follows some sort of leader via her workouts and ways she finds peace.
So Much More To The Story
Aside from her cult upbringing and seeing how that plays into every aspect of her life, Parvati Shallow has much more clarity. Yet, she also talks about more experiences that she had as well as her marriage to Survivor alum John Fincher. She equated that to a cult, and has since come out as queer, dating a woman and exploring. Fans are already clamoring for the book, which will be released on July 8th, 2025:
- I love you and so proud of you!!!!!!!!❤️❤️❤️
- I’ve had mine on pre order and keeping my fingers crossed 🤞🏻 for that Parv zoom call win! I can’t wait to read it!
Many have been asking for a book tour and a chance to meet the Survivor star up close and personal. It will be interesting to see how well the book does and how she does in Australia.
