Katie Thurston’s Dark Cancer Comparison To ‘Twilight’s Bella

Bachelorette star Katie Thurston was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer at just 34 years old. She’s taken fans with her every step of the way through her journey, including some of the devastating side effects.
The former reality star made a dark comparison to Bella Swan, the main character in Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight book series. The books sparked a million-dollar movie franchise starring Kristen Stewart as Bella and Robert Pattinson as vampire Edward Cullen.
Katie Thurston Shares Last Video Before Cancer Diagnosis
Katie Thurston found out she had cancer in February. She went to the doctor to check a lump in her breast that she’d found months earlier. She initially ignored the lump, thinking it was another cyst like the one she previously had removed. To her shock and horror, the biopsy on the lump came back revealing Stage 4 breast cancer, which has since spread to her liver.
The Bachelorette star uses her platform to spread awareness about the importance of early detection and advocating for yourself at the doctor’s office. She took to social media to share the last video she made before she was diagnosed with cancer.
“This was in my drafts – and it was cut off before I could finish it. And then I left for my appointment.” she captioned the post.
In the video, Katie Thurston shared that she had an appointment to get the lump in her breast looked at. She said she didn’t think they would find anything, but it was making her a little “uncomfy.”

Katie shared her reaction to the video. “I watched it and thought “you poor poor girl, oblivious about what is to come.”
Her Dark Comparison To Bella Swan From Twilight
Author Stephenie Meyer released the first Twilight book in 2005. The book quickly became a best-seller, spawned several sequels, and a movie franchise. The books tell a riveting romance between a regular teen girl (Bella) and the vampire (Edward) she falls in love with. Throw in a Werewolf (Jacob) and you have a love triangle that divided the entire nation.
Bella and Edward eventually marry. She gets pregnant almost immediately, despite it being impossible for a vampire to get a human pregnant.
Bella almost dies during the very short pregnancy because the human/vampire baby grew at an accelerated rate, among other issues.

In a missive to the Boobie Broadcast channel she created on Instagram, Katie Thurston made a stark comparison to Bella Swan. Due to her breast cancer, Katie was advised not to have a baby herself. She chose to freeze her eggs in case she wanted to have children through surrogacy with her husband, Jeff Arcuri.
She candidly admitted that there’s “a second layer of grief” about her diagnosis that she hasn’t fully experienced yet – the inability to experience pregnancy. Katie Thurston said that she was warned a baby would “kill her from within,” like Bella’s baby almost did in Twilight.
Despite the heartbreaking thought, Katie Thurston remained optimistic that treatments for Stage 4 are “just around the corner” and someday her husband could kiss her pregnant belly.
