John Foster Teams Up With Other ‘American Idol’ Alumni For Cover

Recent American Idol Season 23 runner-up John Foster was recently part of a musical collaboration shared with fans on social media. For the team-up, Foster shared his vocal talents with a few other reality show alumni. Many of the performers also cut their teeth in a few other famous competition series. Fans have also been taking to social media to share their reactions to the recent performance.
John Foster & Some Of His Fellow American Idol Alumni Teamed Up For A Recent Performance
Foster originally appeared on American Idol during the 23rd season. During his time, he performed songs like “Jailhouse Rock” by Elvis Presley, “I Told You So” by Randy Travis, and “Something To Talk About” by Bonnie Raitt. Foster also performed an original song, “Tell That Angel I Love Her,” which was written in tribute to his late friend, Maggie Dunn.
The country crooner proved popular on the show, making his way into the Top 2. Ultimately, Foster finished as the season’s runner-up, with Jamal Roberts announced as the winner.
Despite this, Foster has still continued to make headlines when it comes to his music. Recently, Foster teamed up with a few competition show personalities to release a cover of a classic ballad. This included Thunderstorm Artis, Drew Ryn, and Mattie Pruitt, all three of whom, like Foster, appeared on Season 23 of American Idol.
Many of these singers are also known for appearing on other competition shows. For his part, Artis also previously appeared on Season 18 of The Voice, where he served as part of John Legend’s team, before being stolen by Nick Jonas. He ultimately finished the season in third place. Artis released a video the four performing the cover on his own TikTok account.
Drew was previously on the first season of The X Factor USA, where her mentor was Simon Cowell. She ultimately ended the series in sixth place.
The Four Former American Idol Contestants Joined Forces For A Haunting Song
All four teamed up for a rendition of Lord Huron’s ballad, “The Night We Met.” In the video, Artis and Foster could both be seen accompanying the vocals on guitar. The band released the folk-rock song back in 2017.
The love song focuses on the end of a relationship, using a theme of “ghosts” as a metaphor for how people and lingering memories can still “haunt” someone over the years. In pop culture, the song was also used in the Netflix series, 13 Reasons Why.
Recently, for his part, Foster has been keeping himself following his time on American Idol. As previously reported, he’s recently made appearances at CMA Fest, made his debut at the Grand Ole Opry, and even announced a return to the Opry this July for an upcoming birthday celebration.
Taking to the comments, quite a few fans were happy to see the four singers team up for the performance. A few fans shared that they would have liked to hear solo performances, noting it was hard to tell the voices apart. However, some fans were just happy to see the singers together, as well as getting along with each other. Some comments included:
- “Four of my favs, that were on the show. Sounds great!!!”
- “It’s hard to hear all of y’all, especially when one is trying to be louder them all the rest. I could barely hear John, except when he sung kinda by himself. John is the best in this group or any group by far!”
- “It sounds awesome!”
- “You are one soul that will walk that trail. Follow your trail path. Look at your feet.”
- “Beautiful. Nice to see you stay friends. That’s important and all of you sing amazingly.”
