Katie Thurston Breaks Down As Doctors Give More News
Bachelorette star Katie Thurston has been through the wringer the last few years. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in February. The shocking diagnosis came just months after she lost a battle in court against her accused rapist. The reality star revealed in June 2024 that she had been raped months earlier. The DA chose not to pursue charges, leaving Katie frustrated with the legal system.
And then she found a lump in her breast. She went to the doctor to get it checked, thinking it was nothing. Unfortunately, it was revealed to be Stage 4 breast cancer, which also spread to her liver. She’s been sharing all this information on the Boobie Broadcast channel she created on Instagram. Katie Thurston Putting Decisions About Cancer On Hold
Katie Thurston was blindsided by the news that the cancer had spread to her liver. She was living in California at the time of the diagnosis. Her doctors there told her it was Stage 3. It was only after moving to NYC to be with her new husband, Jeff Arcuri, that she found out otherwise. The doctors there discovered that the cancer was actually Stage 4 and had spread to her liver.
The Bachelorette star shared with her followers that she plans to get a full mastectomy when they remove the cancerous lumps from her breast. However, her doctors have advised her to treat the liver cancer first. Katie Thurston wants to treat the liver cancer with a non-invasive procedure called a histotripsy. However, she’s put all decisions about how to fight the cancer on hold for now. Why?
She has mentioned several times that she has a scan on July 7th that will reveal if the cancer treatment she’s on is working or not. She’s on a regimen of oral medication and monthly hormone blockers. If the treatment isn’t working, the doctors may have to change course and use traditional chemo to fight the cancer. Bachelorette Star Has Skin Checked
In the meantime, Katie Thurston wants to be sure that she’s cancer-free in other areas of her body. She shared on social media that she was back at the doctor this week to get her skin checked.
In a lengthy Boobie Broadcast missive, she revealed that the doctors sent two spots to get biopsied. She won’t know the results for a few days. Katie Thurston has tried her best to put on a brave face amid the cancer fight. But in a vulnerable moment, she revealed that she couldn’t stop the tears from coming during the skin exam.
She Explains Why She Broke Down During Exam
Having cancer, especially at such a young age, is scary. Katie Thurston is only 34 but is among the many young women getting diagnosed with breast cancer.
In a candid post, she revealed that the skin exam reminded her of the first breast exam. She had to go to the skin exam alone because her husband is in Europe on a comedy tour. He previously postponed it after she was diagnosed. She revealed in another post that he’ll be back in time for her test next month.
Katie Thurston said that she tried to keep the tears from falling, but was unsuccessful. When the medical professionals tried to console her, she cracked the joke that she’d been through worse. But she said that they didn’t share her dark sense of humor.
The Bachelorette star was eventually able to get control of her emotions. She said that she told the medical team that she was optimistic despite the tears. “We aren’t talking about my spots anymore. We’re talking about cancer. I’ll be okay,” she ended the update.
