HGTV’s Host Loses Cancer Battle, Dead At 55

Reports have come out that a figure who worked with HGTV in many capacities, from host to content chief, has passed away. The figure was 55 at the time of their death. Notably, the figure, who had a career spanning decades, had worked on a variety of famous shows and networks in their time.

The Figure Had Served In Various Roles With HGTV

The figure, through their work with the network, worked on many prominent projects for the network. In addition, they had even served as a host for one HGTV series.

Prior to their work with HGTV, the figure already had a prominent career. They had been known for working with a variety of networks and had even won a few accolades.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Loren Ruch has passed away. He had served as the content chief of HGTV and had also hosted HGTV House Party.

Prior to his passing, Ruch had been fighting acute myeloid leukemia. He was 55 at the time of his death.

Throughout his career, Ruch was attached to a variety of projects. He had produced shows like Brother vs. Brother and the HGTV Dream Home specials. While serving as a head of content, he also oversaw shows including “Celebrity IOUA Very Brady RenovationProperty Brothers: Forever Home, My Lottery Dream Home, Bargain Mansions and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”

Ruch had worked with a variety of networks over the years. Other channels on his resume included Food Network, Travel Channel, DIY Network, Cooking Channel and Great American Country. Prior to his work with these Discovery-owned channels, he spent 10 years at Fox’s Good Day LA. During this time, he won five Emmys for his work.

Warner Bros. Discovery chairperson Channing Dungey also shared a statement in honor of Ruch with staff. As it read, “Throughout his three-decade career, Loren was the rare leader who lifted everyone around him. Known for his unwavering dedication, endless kindness, and unshakeable integrity, Loren built not only hit shows but enduring relationships, serving as mentor, advocate and true friend to countless colleagues across the television landscape.”

“His impact stretched far beyond the screen. Loren was the connective tissue of every room he entered — the glue that bound teams, departments, and friendships. He possessed the rare gift of making people feel seen, valued, and inspired to do their best work.”

“For Loren, work was never just about ratings or accolades, it was about people. He built teams that became families, forged friendships that lasted lifetimes, and leaves behind a legacy of creativity, compassion, and joy.”

“For those of us lucky enough to have known and loved Loren, the things we remember, and cherish go far beyond his professional accomplishments. We warmly recall the way he supported his team and his colleagues, celebrating their victories and lending a sympathetic ear when things were difficult. Loren’s light touched everyone lucky enough to know him. Though gone too soon, he leaves behind a lasting imprint on both the television industry. And the lives of those who loved him.”

According to the publication, Ruch is survived by his husband, David Salas, his parents, Dolly Norris and Larry Ruch, and brother Geoffrey Ruch. Instead of flowers, Loren’s loved ones have asked that donations be made to Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation or Be the Match.
