‘Good Morning America’ Wraps Up Final Show In Iconic Place

Good Morning America recently said goodbye as an era came to an end. The show finished its last show in its famous studio, after nearly 26 years. A special celebrity guest also appeared during the episode to help the Good Morning America crew say farewell.

The Iconic Times Square Studio Was Home To Good Morning America For Decades

Good Morning America first premiered in 1975. Since then, fans have seen the show go through various changes, in addition to all sorts of segments.

The series has also seen a variety of anchors over the years. The current presenters are Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, and Michael Strahan, in addition to Lara Spencer and Ginger Zee.

Recently, however, the Good Morning America crew just embraced another big change for the show. On June 13, the morning show aired its last episode from its famous Times Square studio.

As noted by People, the show will move to Walt Disney Company’s New York City headquarters at 7 Hudson Square. Viewers will see the show film at its new location on June 16, 2025.

To celebrate, the occasion the show featured an appearance from Alicia Keys, complete with a performance from the cast of her Broadway show, Hell’s Kitchen. As Keys herself shared, “It’s a celebration.” The singer performed her famous hits, “Girl on Fire” and “No One.”

In addition, the anchors also featured segments giving viewers a sneak peek at the new Manhattan area.

As a surprise, a special goodbye was also held for stagehand and prop master Gary Minor, who is set to retire. Minor’s family and fellow crew members also appeared for the emotional moment. As thanks, Minor gifted the anchors with bobbleheads made in his image.

Good Morning America was just about to celebrate 26 years at the Times Square studio. The show aired its first episode from the studio on Sept. 13, 1999. Beforehand, the show aired at the ABC News headquarters since its debut in 1975.

GMA Is The Final Show To Make The Transition To The New Studio

Good Morning America is also the last show to make its transition into the new studio. Other shows that have since made the move include The View, The Tamron Hall Show, and Live with Kelly and Mark.

Back in September, The View‘s executive producer Brian Teta spoke about the move. At the time, he shared, “I’ve been in television for 25 years and it’s one of the only times where I’ve been shown the plans for something and it’s not only met the original vision, but really exceeded it. It’s really terrific.”

Teta admitted that he originally had some reservations about the move. However, he eventually became impressed. As he shared, “It’s really just such a phenomenal marvel of engineering and such a credit to the people who designed this, the crew who installed it, and everybody else involved.”
