‘American Idol’ Winner Jamal Roberts Steals Show At BET Awards
Jamal Roberts recently became the winner of Season 23 of American Idol. The singer has still been making headlines following the show, especially with his recent performance for the 2025 BET Awards. Many fans also shared their own reactions to seeing Roberts have his moment during the award show.
The 2025 BET Awards Saw Jamal Roberts Hit The Stage With Kirk Franklin
Fans recently saw Roberts be crowned the Season 23 winner of the famous competition series, which currently airs on ABC. The gospel and R&B singer performed songs including “Liar” by Jelly Roll and “Try a Little Tenderness” by Otis Redding during his time on the show. Country crooner John Foster also served as the season’s runner-up.
Following his American Idol win, fans have also seen Roberts make various appearances, showcasing his musical skills to the world. Recently, he appeared during the 2025 BET Awards.
The night was filled with various musical performances. For his part, Roberts was part of a musical performance alongside Kirk Franklin, Tamar Braxton, Muni Long, D.C. Young Fly, and Salt. The performance featured songs including “Silver & Gold,” “I Smile,” “Do It Again,” “Melodies From Heaven,” and “Revolution.”
As noted by Gold Derby, this isn’t the first time Roberts and Franklin shared the same venue. Franklin appeared during American Idol’s recent finale. He performed “Melodies from Heaven” and “Love Theory” with contestant Canaan James Hill. Later, he performed “Unpretty” and “Liar” with Jelly Roll, before performing “Heal.”
As previously reported, Roberts also previously appeared on BET’s Sunday Best, a singing series that focuses on gospel music. Notably, Kirk Franklin also featured as a presenter on the show.
Roberts Also Gave NeNe Leakes A Performance Prior To The Award Show
Kevin Hart served as the host of the event. The night was also a big moment for Kendrick Lamar, who saw both the most awards and nominations during the night. Denzel Washington won Best Actor with Cynthia Erivo winning Best Actress. Mariah Carey, Jamie Foxx, and Snoop Dogg were also given special honors.
Hours before the BET Awards, Roberts also appeared with NeNe Leakes on her talk show. At the time, he performed an a cappella rendition of Joe’s “All the Things (Your Man Won’t Do).” Leakes could be heard saying, “I’m just shining, honey!” after he shared a lyric about shining like a diamond.
