‘Today’ Craig Melvin Leaves For Another Job, Is He Coming Back?
Today show co-anchor Craig Melvin is shaking things up just five months after replacing Hoda Kotb. He accepted the job as co-anchor with Savannah Guthrie, and fans have loved him in his new role. However, he wasn’t on the morning show earlier this week and had a replacement on hand. Melvin had another obligation he took on, and he couldn’t be more excited. This week, fans noticed that during the third hour, Melvin was not anywhere to be found. Instead, Peter Alexander stepped in during his absence. The big question is, will Craig be back permanently? Keep reading to get all the details.
Is Today Co-Anchor Craig Melvin Leaving So Soon?
Craig Melvin was a popular choice to replace Hoda Kotb on Today, and he began his new gig in mid-January. He was noticeably absent during the third hour of the morning show and already had a fill-in. Where was Craig?
It seems Craig is staying busy. He took on another job along with all the other things he does. This time was revealed that he was out doing a photoshoot.
Al Roker explained Craig’s absence, saying, “Good morning everybody and welcome to the Third Hour of Today. I’m Al and this is Dylan, and we’ve got Peter Alexander – co-anchor on Weekend Today – filling in.”
He went on to say, “Craig had to run off on a shoot so we appreciate you coming in.” Al also threw in a joke about Peter having to fill in as weatherman if he needed to be gone as well.

So far, Craig Melvin seems to love his role on Today. In fact, on his first day on set, his family, including his wife, children, and parents, all surprised him on set to wish him well on his new journey.
Melvin became rather emotional that day, and the love he has for his family is obvious.
He fits in quite nicely with the rest of the Today show crew. So, rest assured, he’s not going anywhere!
Other Opportunities
Craig Melvin continues to be given other opportunities as well. In mid-May, it was announced that he would have a column in the Southern Living Magazine. The news outlet shared an Instagram post honoring Melvin and announcing his new job.
They shared a photo of him and said, “In a full-circle moment, Craig’s new column will debut on newsstands tomorrow in our June/July issue! Join us at the link in our profile to read our conversation with our newest columnist and learn the one Southern tradition he’ll never give up.”

The post also said, “Catch Craig Melvin as the co-anchor of the @todayshow, and you may hear a fellow host call him ‘Mr. Southern Living.’ It’s an apt moniker for the Columbia, South Carolina-born journalist, who was raised in a household where the magazine came ‘third or fourth to the Holy Bible,’ he says.”
What do you think about all the new jobs Craig Melvin is taking on, along with his co-anchor gig replacing Hoda?
