Mama June Fans Livid Over Her Raising Granddaughter
When Anna Cardwell passed away in December 2023, she left behind two daughters. One was Kylee, who automatically went to live with her biological father, and the second was Kaitlyn. She was Anna’s firstborn, but the identity of her father was seemingly never known. Anna wanted Kaitlyn to go to her current husband and longtime partner, Eldridge Toney, but never filed paperwork. Therefore, Mama June took over and went to fight for custody after Anna’s ex-husband, Michael Cardwell, stepped up. At the time, fans wanted the sisters to stay together and live with Michael. Anna had also long been estranged from her mother, so they questioned if June was the best guardian.
She ended up winning custody of Kaitlyn, and, along with her husband, Justin Stroud, they have been happily raising the tween. Kaitlyn has appeared in video clips and appears to be very well-adjusted and happy to be with her aunts and cousins. However, not all followers think that June is the right person to have custody of her. One person shared this about their feelings toward June:
- Just a rant, she makes my blood boil, just one more life she’s gonna ruin
Some fans have long felt this way, given that Mama June has a harsh history with her children. When she was deep into her addiction, her daughter, Pumpkin Efird, took in Alana Thompson. Alana had been living with June, but it became incredibly unstable, and she needed a sense of normalcy. She also stole from Alana, and the daughters felt June always chose men over them. Now, she seems to be much more level-headed with Kaitlyn, and it shows.

Fans Speak Out
Despite Kaitlyn appearing happy with Mama June and Justin Stroud, fans do not feel she is in the right hands. They are basing their opinions on June’s past behaviors and not looking at how she may be faring now. So, what are viewers saying about June having custody of Kaitlyn? It is not good at all:
- I don’t understand why Anna just wouldn’t sign the papers. I know she was dealing with something extremely difficult, but she really screwed her kids over.
- I don’t think she wanted her mom to have her. Anna wouldn’t live with her own mother and only made amends on her death bed.
- she is NOT fit to take care of a child. kaitlyn (idk how to spell it) deserves to be with her sister! separating siblings seems so wrong.
They did not think that Anna really wanted her mother to raise Kaitlyn. More so, they have love for Justin for stepping up and loving her as his own blood. Mama June did all that she could when Anna was sick, as she wanted to make things right. Maybe it was not perfect, but Kaitlyn is glowing, and that is all anyone can ask for after what she has been through.
