Hoda Kotb Breaks Silence On Replacing Kelly Clarkson
Rumors have taken over the internet that Kelly Clarkson is leaving her popular talk show, and a former TODAY host is taking over. Hoda Kotb reacts to the rumors. Keep reading to find out what she has to say about her possible return to daytime TV.
Fans Think Kelly Clarkson Wants To Leave Talk Show
Kelly Clarkson won the first season of American Idol in 2002 and shot to stardom. She’s still the most successful winner from the reality competition to this day. Carrie Underwood is a close second. Throughout the years, Clarkson has done it all. She’s hosted award ceremonies, performed in Las Vegas for an extended residency, and was even in the ill-fated From Justin To Kelly movie with American Idol Season 1 runner-up Justin Guarani.
Due to her popularity, the singer was offered the role of hosting her own daytime talk show. The Kelly Clarkson Show premiered in 2019 and has dominated daytime ratings ever since. The show moved from Los Angeles to New York City for Season 5 at her request. But now fans think she’s ready to call it quits.
She was unexpectedly absent from the daytime talk show for almost the entire month of March. She didn’t publicly address her disappearance, but it was later revealed that her absence was due to a family matter. Her recent jokes on the show gave fans the impression that the talk show was too much on top of all her other side gigs.
The daytime talk show was renewed through Season 7, which means Clarkson will continue hosting the show through at least 2026. She might leave after that, and there’s chatter online that Hoda Kotb could replace her.

Hoda Kotb Frequent Guest On The Kelly Clarkson Show
When The Kelly Clarkson Show moved to Rockefeller Plaza in New York City, TODAY hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager were among the first to welcome her. They brought queso and chips on the Season 5 premiere. The two talk shows both film at the same studio in midtown Manhattan.
As neighbors, Hoda Kotb frequently pops into Kelly Clarkson’s talk show as a guest. She also returns often to her old stomping grounds. She left The TODAY Show earlier this year, partly due to her daughter’s diagnosis with type 1 diabetes. According to Kotb, her daughter needs constant monitoring. She confirmed the medical diagnosis to PEOPLE magazine recently.
Hoda Kotb first joined The Today Show‘s fourth hour as co-host in 2007. Former First Daughter Jenna Bush Hager was promoted to co-host in 2019 after Kathie Lee Gifford left. A slew of celebrity guest hosts have joined Hager since Hoda Kotb’s departure.
Former TODAY Host Breaks Silence On Replacing Kelly Clarkson
During a return to TODAY this week, Hoda Kotb addressed the rumors that she’s returning to daytime TV to replace Kelly Clarkson. She adamantly told Jenna Bush Hager that it wasn’t true. If she did return to daytime, it wouldn’t be on The Kelly Clarkson Show.
“Do you think that if I ever came back to TV … do you know the only place I would ever come back is? Right here, this is the spot. There’s no place like home,” Hoda Kotb said.

So, there’s a chance she could return daytime TV, but not as host of The Kelly Clarkson Show. Do you think the popular singer will leave her talk show after next season? Sound off in the comments.
