‘American Idol’: Jessica Simpson Held Back Tears During Performance
During Sunday night’s finale of American Idol, Jessica Simpson was one of many talented, iconic performers to take the stage. Not only did Simpson sing her own new single, but she also sang a classic with one of the contestants from the current season. Jessica is talking about her live performance and reveals that she was holding back tears. What was going on to almost make her cry? Keep reading to get all the details.
American Idol Welcomed Jessica Simpson For Special Performance
American Idol fans saw Jessica Simpson take the stage and perform her new single, “Blame Me.” She also performed a Nancy Sinatra classic with contestant Josh King. Simpson and King sang their version of the 1966 hit, “These Boots Are Made for Walkin.”
The performance went off without a hitch, and fans loved it. Following her time on stage, Jessica spoke with Extra about it all. She said she was fighting to hold back tears. Why? Simpson said she had not been that nervous in a very long time.
She said she was dying on stage. In fact, her feet were sweating so badly that she put hairspray on them to try and stay put. Jessica said it’s crazy because her feet never sweat.
Simpson went on explaining herself by saying, “I just kept telling myself, ‘Do not cry. Do not cry. I know this is a big moment… do not cry.’ And then I see my dad, like, up in the corner, and I’m like, ‘Ah, I’m going to cry. I’m going to cry. Do not cry. Just sing your songs. Just sing your songs.’”
This was the first time Simpson had performed live on television in fifteen years.
She Spoke About Her Children Watching Her Perform
American Idol fans were not the only ones excited to see Jessica Simpson perform. She revealed that her children, Maxwell, 13, Ace, 11, and Birdie, 5, were watching her perform as well. She said they had never seen her sing live like that before.
Jessica said, “I had my kids FaceTiming everybody to tell me I did a good job. And I haven’t gotten to talk to them yet, but I’m so excited to talk to them because they’ve never seen me sing live like that.”
She also revealed that she has two new albums coming out. One is “Nashville Canyon Part One,” and the part two version will come out this summer.
Simpson said her new album is so much a part of her soul. So, it made her feel “naked, to be honest, like, it was very bare and raw and very vulnerable.”
When speaking of her new album, she said it’s unlike any she’s done before. It has more vintage sounds, and she recorded it live with a band. This was the first time doing that for her, and she said now she will never do it another way. In her opinion, she was meant to be part of a band.
When asked if this is Jessica Simpson reinvented, she responded with, “Yeah, I think this is like Jessica Simpson 4.0.”
