Will Hallmark Renew The Chicken Sisters Season 2?

The Hallmark Channel is airing the Season 1 finale of The Chicken Sisters on Sunday. This is the series that stars Lea Thompson (Nancy), Wendie Malick (Gus), Schuyler Fisk (Amanda), and Genevieve Angelson (Mae). Will the network renew this Southern fried series for Season 2?

According to Deadline, it has been renewed for a second season. Moreover, they are already filming in Vancouver. However, the series may be getting a new, possibly lighter and funnier look. That is because Throwing Shade writer and star Erin Gibson is the new showrunner, taking over for Annie Mebane.

In addition, the series has added JAG star David James Elliott in a recurring role. He is from Gus’s past. Therefore, his presence could add more disruption in her part of Merinac.

This series will continue in the aftermath of the results of the Kitchen Clash competition. What happens in the season finale will forever alter the lives of all the characters.

The Chicken Sisters Season 2 May Be More Like Hart Of Dixie

Now that Hallmark has changed The Chicken Sisters showrunner for Season 2, it looks like the network will be making changes to the tone of the series. Based on the updated posters for the series, it looks like the tone will be lighter. When the network premiered The Chicken Sisters for Hallmark+, The tagline for the poster was “Only one can rule the roost.”

This photo shows the four main characters look like they are ready for the big chicken shop competition. They look ready for a competition. The bright yellow and harsh red lettering is antagonistic. The tagline is about conflict.

Compare this with the lighter, Hallmark Channel poster. The new tagline is, “The secret recipe for family.” This is more on the lines of the uplifting family message of the network’s brand. The colors are brighter and more hopeful. The characters all have big smiles and it looks lighter and happier.

The network may be looking to morph this series into a lighter and more fun series like Hart Of Dixie. For example, throughout the series, Dot (Marlee Walchuk) has added a lot of quirkiness and humor to the series with her leggings party and her other fun business ventures.

These lighter storylines have been more popular with viewers than some of the heavy hoarding that is more Lifetime than Hallmark.
